So Ubisoft doesn't believe in one-off gems that manage to hold their own, and believe games have to be milked until there's nothing left. That sure sounds promising.
Makes sense from a business standpoint. Why risk a new IP when you can make more money on repackaging existing ideas? The gaming communities desire for a constant stream of fresh and innovative games is superceded by their willingness to throw millions of dollars a year collectively at third, fourth, fifth iterations of Assassins Creed, Far Cry, and Splinter Cell.
Ubisoft is kind of the only company I'm okay with doing this for. The thing with Ubisoft games is that because of the scale of the company, they put a lot of resources towards their games and are able to make them ambitious titles with visible changes in gameplay and the overall environment from game to game.
But the question is, when do you stop?
That's a horrible attitude to have, but I guess that means from now on anything they make we should expect an annual sequel for.
Because a game such as Mirrors Edge totally wasn't a great game with lots of profit before the sequel was announced. Oh wait yeah it was, it sold >3,000,000 copies and is still a very populare game.

well that's one more publisher i won't be buying from. Not like ubisoft publishes anything interesting anymore anyway. As the title says they're all drawn out games that should have died after the first maybe second.

But yeah I don't have a whole lot of respect left them
I see no problem at all with this, a lot of companies are already doing this. For example, Valve Ubisoft makes great games, so no problem.

I'm alright with Ubisoft starting franchises as long as they spend time actually developing good games from them.
I'm okay with drawn out series as long as the games are fun. I'm not a big baby PC gamer that needs to have innovative amazing games that break the rules and revolutionize gaming every year.
I don't have an issue with sequels, but once you start releasing them annually you can't help but get tired of the formula. It dilutes the experience.
Personally, I am fine with this. I enjoy games that have a good lore and world to them, and I would love to explore it more and more.

There's nothing wrong with franchising games but there is something wrong with not letting one-time gems get their chance.
It's a shame, Ricochet was a great game that doesn't have a sequel, imagine a Ricochet franchise.
