• HDMI Video Capture Recording Question/Problem

Hello internet. Just recently, I purchased an AverMedia MTVHDDVRR AVerTV PCIe HD Video Capture Card, with the intetion or broadcasting and recording Footage from my PS3/Xbox360. The problem is that I don't have any PCIe slots for the card. This was mostly just a clumsy mistake by me, not taking the time to check if i had the proper slots or not, but I have yet to open the box. I have two questions; 1. Should i buy either an StarTech PCI1PEX1 PCI to PCI Express Adapter Card ( http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6047299&CatId=5507 ) OR Return the AVerTV and get a Black Magic Intensity Capture Card ( http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/ ) 2. If i ended up picking up the PCI to PCI Express Adapter, will i get any quality loss, or will the card not work as fully intended, and if so, pay a little extra for the Black Magic Intensity? Thanks for reading and hope you guys could me a solution :D

[editline]20th June 2011[/editline] The Black Magic thing won't work well, either, because you (probably) don't have USB3.0
In some cases it can work!!
I probably wouldn't recommend using the PCI to PCI express adapter for one main reason. You will create a big bottleneck, if it even works at all. The theoretical maximum bandwidth for PCI is 133 MB/s. Sounds like a lot, but its shared across everything else that uses the PCI bus on your PC. It probably will probably hold back the capture card, especially if your capturing on 1080p.

Wouldn't it just be easier to but a Hauppage HD PVR that all of the YouTubers use?

Not sure if your second PCI-E x16 is being used, but you can put that card in it. both of those blue slots are PCI-e x16 - the card's PCI-e x1 and will work fine in it.
If you need help setting the thing up, PM me. I just bought this card a few days ago too.
Black Magic cards are great value and perform great, but I hear sooooooooo many bad things about reliability, bugs, and the drivers. They are still pretty much top dog for console recording and streaming, just be sure you know what you're getting into.

The only problem that currently presists is that i cant capture any PS3 Footage, i think it has something to do with the HDMI format or a setting on the PS3. That's great. You should be able to easily change the PS3s HDMI out settings to make it work, I'd set it to 480p first to see if it's a bandwidth issue or something (don't really know what I'm talking about) and then mess with it there.
Caybul management.
well i have good and bad news. I got the my Card working with PS3, but apparently theres a HDCP on the card that prevents me from recording from my PS3 in HD with the program. BUt, easy solution, Fraps.
