• Hi Facepunch, can you build me a computer? ($600 gaming)

United States. I have the monitor, OS, keyboard, mouse, and DVD drive. I'm going to be playing games like Just Cause 2, Crysis, Source games, etc. (I'm not running at like 3200000x26000000 resolution either. 1370x768 only. So I'm not asking for a monster beast gaming machine.) If I have to, I can expand my budget to $600.
1370x768 only.
Ew. Widescreen much?
Good luck. 500 dollars will hardly be enough to run Half-Life 2.
Your thread title is hilarious. You should be a comedian.
Good luck. 500 dollars will hardly be enough to run Half-Life 2.
wow you are the best troll ever
Good luck. 500 dollars will hardly be enough to run Half-Life 2.
Hah. I can't tell if you're being serious about that or not. Guys, I may can stretch out my budget to $600. I'll update the OP.
You know, if you're playing on a TV that supports 1080p you can force the resolution to 1920x1080.
You know, if you're playing on a TV that supports 1080p you can force the resolution to 1920x1080.
My TV only plays 720p, so no large resolutions for me. :frown:
You know, if you're playing on a TV that supports 1080p you can force the resolution to 1920x1080.
How? I'm assuming you'd need a DVI -> HDMI cable or something. Right now I'm using DVI -> VGA and sticking that into the VGA component of my TV. The TV does support 1080p, but I'm restricted to 1366x768 on the monitor. Is there any way to do it with the VGA input, or would I have to go out and buy some more hardware?

Corsair corsair corsair.), smaller HDD and shell out what you save on getting a GPU. Recommending maybe a 9600 or low 2xx if you can afford it. Also, I'd recommend going with a C2D over an iX or AMD. Cheaper and still just as good, especially on a budget.
Good luck. 500 dollars will hardly be enough to run Half-Life 2.
anything can run at 720p

What the hell? I can get 2gb of DDR from Corsair for $68AUD. How can it be cheaper here? :s

Oh jesus christ I just noticed that was 4gb. I SAID 2GB. 4gb is in no way required for a barebones gaming PC. This is a better choice. And Dan, yes, the GPU is very important, but a 9600 or low end 2XX will still run Crysis and such. Getting better core components and skimping on the GPU is a better idea when building on budget IMHO, because if you buy shit core components to get a good GPU you're gunna end up bottlenecking the shit outta the GPU. Plus GPU's are easy as pie to replace so all he has to do is save up some more dough and bam.
I see nothing wrong with a lesser budget on the motherboard and perhaps getting a Quad 945, then having enough for say, a 9800 or 260 of the sorts. And the case as well. You couldn't use the one from your old computer?
I said to drop the Mobo/CPU. And fuck Quad, that's a waste of money too. Core 2 Duo is perfectly acceptable for gaming. Fuck, I'm running a 3ghz c2d, 9800gtx and 2gb ram and I can nearly every game I throw at it fucking perfectly.

More and more games (by that I mean everything coming out and most currently out) support multiple threads. The quad cores we have now (i5/i7) perform better than C2Ds at the same clocks. Definitely not a waste of money.
No more crap thread titles.

This is a BUDGET PC. Bang for buck is the name of the game, and quadcore is not worth it yet imho. Only for futureproofing.

Never run an AMD system so I couldn't say.
I would say for budget sake, grab an Athlon 240 for 60 bucks, or if needed, a Propus for 110, then if room, upgrade to a 4890 or maybe even a 5850. The Athlon II's hold up well against the Core 2 Duo's and are much cheaper.

ECS...eww...how about Asus or MSI?
you need to stop living in the past
I'm not. Point me to a page of statistics that show a quad core vastly outperforming a CURRENT dual core, and I might change my tune. But until I see statistics that show that it's fucking amazing (which I haven't), shut up.
