• Iran 'designing nuclear submarine'
Iran has begun to design its first nuclear submarine, a semi-official news agency in the country has reported. Deputy navy chief in charge of technical affairs Admiral Abbas Zamini was quoted as saying Iran has begun “initial stages” of designing the nuclear-powered craft. Admiral Zamini said Iran has developed “peaceful nuclear technology” and has both the capability and the right to build a submarine. Iran and the West are at odds over Tehran’s nuclear programme. The US suspects it is aimed at developing weapons technology - a charge that Iran denies. Iran has built several small submarines. It recently overhauled one of the three non-nuclear Russian Kilo-class submarines it bought in 1990s.
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2012/0612/breaking11.html
Nuke Subs are outdated, with systems of modern radar and detection, they've become more of a wartime novelty. However, 30 some years ago, they were still a major threat, due to the unstable might of the Soviet Union. Fortunately, the USSR is gone, and Iran is nowhere near as severe a threat to the world as that.

I'm shipping out to my first sub next month, they are by no means outdated. A nuke sub can stay underwater for months, hell it could be for years is it wasn't for a human crew. Americas subs are some of the most technologically advanced vessels out at sea, and because they have no loud engines to be clacking about they can go virtually undetected. Something tells me if they even do build one that it is going to end horribly.

People can enlist, serve 7 years and then get out of the military, three times, before one of these things has to refuel. They also don't have to surface to charge any batteries.
Admiral Zamini said Iran has developed “peaceful nuclear technology” and has both the capability and the right to build a submarine.
And then.. Good for them. I don't see an issue with this. Simply building a nuclear sub doesn't mean they have the stealth technology to keep it hidden nor the missile capability to fire nuke missiles from it like the US.

They acquired Kilo-class subs which probably have some sort of stealth tech on them and then they have a space program.

Kursk 2.0
designing and building are two very different things.
Inb4 people confuse nuclear power and nuclear weaponry. Oops, too late. (User was banned for this post ("Meme reply" - Craptasket))
I don't think building a weapon of war with nuclear technology constitutes peaceful means
Well fuck, we should immediately invade the United States, they have tons of WMD's and are constantly building up their military with new war technology!
Some scale models of their baking sod- I mean nuclear submarine
Well fuck, we should immediately invade the United States, they have tons of WMD's and are constantly building up their military with new war technology!
The difference being one is supposed to have nuclear weapons and means and one is not, and continues to claim they are not.

That's where diesel-electric/AIP boats get their 'silence' from as they can switch over to electric without having the continual flow noises of a constantly running reactor. Not saying that modern nuclear subs, especially those amid the USN and RN, aren't silent, but the majority of their non-propulsor noise comes from the reactor.
look out, a wild submarine!
i wonder if someone will make a zoom in lmao picture out of this
This just in: Iran once again announces that they're designing something we've had for decades.
This just in: Iran once again announces that they're designing something we've had for decades.
We must stop them from having such advanced 21st century weaponry!
