An Australian Senate committee is examining the Marriage Equality Amendment Bill 2012 and was accepting public comments on the law until today’s deadline. AME, which allowed people to make submissions through their website, claimed that more comments were submitted in favor of this bill than for any other in the history of parliamentary inquiries. According to the Australian Parliament’s website, 54 percent of the people who filed a comment said they supported the bill, while 45 percent were opposed. The Senate committee is expected to report to the full Parliament on June 18. -------------------------------------- - http://thinkprogress.org/lgbt/2012/04/02/456658/45000-australians-submit-public-comments-supporting-marriage-equality/
Submission are made here: http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/House_of_Representatives_Committees?url=spla%2Fbill+marriage%2Findex.htm
Just let this pass, theres no point in this modern era to not let this pass. It hurts nobody at all and if it does then let them suffer for being an idiot I'm looking at you ACL
I really did not think the percentage against the bill would be this high.
It would be nice to add another country to the list of countries that aren't completely populated and/or run by people with shit for brains.
I really did not think the percentage against the bill would be this high.
It was probably more than it wasn't heavily advertised among the general community, I can see a whole lot of special interest groups knowing about it more than everyone else
FFS everyone wants same-sex marriage to be legal so why can't it just be legal already.
FFS everyone wants same-sex marriage to be legal so why can't it just be legal already.
Prejudiced twats in power.
Voted for same sex marriage to be allowed, Nothing wrong with it.
In 40 years we'll look back and marvel at how we oppressed the rights of homosexuals, in the way we look back at how we oppressed African Americans 40 years ago. Goddamn I am so sick of prejudiced assholes in politics.
while 45 percent were opposed.
fuck all of those guys

I voted in the for. Problem is that in the last week of submissions, the Catholic Church in Australia handed out 80,000 pamphlets asking for Catholics to vote no. While the gay marriage group do not have such a large voice Still, they won, which is great
It won't happen, our government is filled with old homophobic retards.
FFS everyone wants same-sex marriage to be legal so why can't it just be legal already.
Because, sadly, not everyone does want same-sex marriage to be legal.
Even though same-sex marriage doesn't affect those people AT ALL. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada. There isn't even a microscopic amount of how it could affect those people. It just simply does not.
Well they seem to think it does, for some reason (but yeah they're dumb)
45K? Thats like half the country
Awww you go guys

It just simply does not.
"They're getting married and I think it's wrong! This can't happen!" People like this are immature. Sadly, there's nothing to do about them, they're too narrow-minded to change.
The funny thing is that there is a 99% chance that the ones against same sex marriage are also the ones that aren't related or friends with any gay people. Which fucking pisses me off. "I don't want to associate with them, but if they think they can get rights then they're mistaken."
