• Questions about plastics painting

I debated a while and decided this was best place to post this. I'm going to be painting my Nerf Recon over the weekend. It's made of ABS plastic and is smooth and shit. I was wondering what kind of paints, varnishes, clearcoats, whatnot I should use. I'm going to be painting it soft white-gray base with dark gray, almost black accents and blue-gray stripes. I was going for a mixture of various Mass Effect pistols and submachine guns: Especially the last two. I was thinking of taking the stripes from the last one and making them blue. The Recon looks a lot like the Tempest(second to last one) Recon looks like this This paintjob will be my first and pretty much the only reason I am even keeping the Recon is for this paintjob so I want it to go well.
Take it apart, and fine-grain sand it so that the paint actually sticks. As far as the actual paint and varnish etc you should use, I haven't a clue, I don't paint much plastic.
It's all in the proper primer. Get a nice plastic spray primer, I can't think of any brands off the top of my heads. Apply even coat, then afterwards most paints should stick well, obviously you want plastic paints.

Because I want to paint over the logo and such with a silver paint and a thin brush and if I sand it I can't see the logo to paint it. However on NerfHaven, I remember reading something about a "rustoleum" or something plastics paint that made it so you don't need to sand.
No matter what paint you're using sanding makes things a lot smoother. /pun Anyway, you can't notice the sanding after you've painted the gun, so don't worry so much. You just have to sand for a minute or two, nothing extreme.
