A shooter is on the loose after at least seven people, some of them children, were killed at three different crime scenes in southern Ohio Friday, local news agencies report.
At least they don't think the attacks are random. All 7 people were family members.
I really want to post an argument against guns, we've done this every time a shooting happens someone brings it up then people misread or don't read the previous pages and you just end up with a cycle.
Hell. Even here gun crime has surged because of middle eastern gangs.
I think I'm all argue out as nothing ever changes in the end, It's just an endless cycle of death.

All I can say is that, if somebody wants someone else dead, they'll probably try to fulfill that want no matter what.

The thing you've got to remember is that the vast, vast, vast majority of gun owners are law-abiding citizens with no criminal intent whatsoever. Penalizing them will accomplish very little, just take a look at our track record of cosmetic bans.
On topic, I hope they get this guy and I hope they get him alive. The only way to take real steps to solving the problem is figuring out what the problem is in the first place.
All I can say is that, if somebody wants someone else dead, they'll probably try to fulfill that want no matter what.
and the counter-argument to that is still the same; its harder to kill 7 people with a knife than it is to kill 7 people with a gun
All I can say is that, if somebody wants someone else dead, they'll probably try to fulfill that want no matter what.
It's a lot harder though if you don't have a gun
Those poor people. What possesses someone to take the life of another person?
All I can say is that, if somebody wants someone else dead, they'll probably try to fulfill that want no matter what.
This is three separate areas where shootings occurred. I have a hard time believing the assailant would have been able to quickly cover that much ground and get that many people if he had to use a knife.
It's a lot harder though if you don't have a gun
I live in Chicago, you can easily get illegal guns, how is banning them going to stop that?
I live in Chicago, you can easily get illegal guns, how is banning them going to stop that?
I don't see anywhere in his post that says banning all guns will stop gun crime. I see him arguing that guns make killing easier, which is objectively true.
One of the children was just 5 days old and another was 6 months old
How the fuck can someone be this fucked up?
It's a lot harder though if you don't have a gun
Good thing illegally buying a gun is just as easy as getting it lawfully, sometimes even easier.
What are you gonna do about that? Ban illegal gun purchases?
Think of it like drugs. They are banned or have been banned for the longest time on most places of the planet. Have drugs completely vanished from the planet because of the ban? Have people stopped getting access to drugs? Have people stopped selling drugs? Hell, the US have been cracking down really hard on drugs, and do you see an improvement?
It's almost absurd that people think that Making gun-ownership illegal will somehow remove guns as an accessory for murder, and that people will suddenly not have access to them.

How did you even come to all those conclusions from his post. All he said was guns make it easier to kill people, not that all guns should be banned.

Mental illness
Sounds too planned. This is not a mass murder or shooting, it is planned out serial string of homicides.
Guns should be restricted more AND smarter. Not everybody is fit to keep a machine capable of murder in under a second from distance. Restriction is only sane.
But fit people should be allowed.
The way it is, you need to develop better methodology for restriction. How could one block this man's access to guns?
I don't think anyone who owns firearms and isn't some extreme right wing would be against things like improved background checks, fixing the system we have now to move more efficiently, and allowing citizens to search the database. Nobody without at least $40,000 and absolutely insane requirements gets to own a machine gun. Owning one essentially gives the ATF a free pass to waltz in and inspect you whenever they feel.
I for one believe guns should be licensed on time leases. Get for a year, get evaluated every year to keep it still. But I dont know much. Does anyone have a suggestion?
This is a bad idea, just like registrations are a bad idea. What happens when the political tides change and the evaluations are raised so absurdly high that no one passes, and now you've created a shopping list of confiscations for the government?
Mental illness
Which makes me bring up health care as one of the most powerful gun violence combatants. I think when people aren't afraid of either being bankrupt or outcast from society because they are seeking help, then we can finally move forward.
and the counter-argument to that is still the same; its harder to kill 7 people with a knife than it is to kill 7 people with a gun
Jeez, I didn't mention "gun" or "it would be the same with a knife!!1". I said what I meant, a sick person wants to kill, they'll try their best to. No matter what they use.
I live not-too-far at all from this, just heard that the attorney general is telling people with the same last name as the victims to hide. Supposedly the shooting was drug-related, and the family's being hunted down or something. The kids killed were under the age of 18, but the smallest children were apparently just left in the house.
This is some cartel-tier shit if that's the case, and it wouldn't surprise me. Meth and heroin have become big problems around here.

I find it hilarious to see this exact order of arguments on every mass shooting news story here, without fail, before page 2.

Your sense of humor is odd.

Dark humor is like food. Not everyone gets it.

"they'll try their best" and "will fulfill it no matter what" are two very different things

Don't you think not ending up bankrupt and not ending up a social outcast for seeking help would help you move forward?
But as always, according to you, the fault is in them for fearing the consequences of seeking help, i.e. getting fucked over financially and being outcast from society. And you suggested nothing to fix the consequences of seeking help.

People are afraid to seat treatment for mental illness, he's saying we should take action to alleviate those fears. It seems like you want the same thing as him.

No, he wants to fix nothing about their fears of seeking help.
He just wants them not to fear seeking help, not to fear getting fucked over financially and so on. And then you can finally move forwards. ??

Are we reading the same post? He's not saying the mentally ill need to just get over it and the problem will be solved.

Pardon?
That's exactly what I said. When people no longer are afraid of becoming bankrupt, or becoming an outcast from seeking mental help, then we can finally move forward.
No, he wants to fix nothing about their fears of seeking help.

What the fuck are you on about? I've advocated improving healthcare (universal) in other threads and in almost every gun debate in SH. Read the post twice before you make a sharp reply in the wrong direction.
Yeah well, most Americans don't really like to place too much value in publicly funded health care systems.
Yeah well, most Americans don't really like to place too much value in publicly funded health care systems.
Besides this being the most defeated sounding response, there are a very large amount of people in favor of it. Unfortunately, we are stuck with ACA, which, while better than nothing, is still an aborted version of what we should have.
"they'll try their best" and "will fulfill it no matter what" are two very different things

probably try to fulfill that want no matter what.

they'll try their best to
That's what I said both times??? People seem to look for what ever they want to see in order to pick a bone, eh?
