• Going to install Win7, have a few questions first

Okay first, I have a partioned HD and I want to clean install on the one with my current windows on it. Will the other partition go untouched and will all its files be completely accessible afterward? Second, do I need to find windows 7 drivers for my hardware? Or will the drivers that came with my stuff do? Third, is my setup good for win7? my specs (going on what I remember so some things may be off) : AMD athlon dualcore 64 4600+ 2 gigs 800mhz ram Geforce 9800gt And finally, anything I should be aware of or watch out for when I switch over? Thanks in advance
Some Windows XP applications won't work.
It's known to hang frequently on AMD 64 processors. I had to downgrade just because of that.

Yes, as long as you don't mess with that partition when you install. Second, do I need to find windows 7 drivers for my hardware? Or will the drivers that came with my stuff do? Windows 7 comes with a ton of drivers out of the box, but for everything not covered by that you'll have to find Windows 7 drivers. Try Vista drivers if you can't find ones for 7. In particular make sure that you have ethernet / wireless drivers ready or you might be stuck without internet access. Third, is my setup good for win7? my specs (going on what I remember so some things may be off) : AMD athlon dualcore 64 4600+ 2 gigs 800mhz ram Geforce 9800gt More than enough for W7. And finally, anything I should be aware of or watch out for when I switch over? Some programs won't work on Windows 7 or will require compatibility mode, but very very few in my experience. Thanks in advance
Answers in quote.
Alrighty, got errythang installed, all went off without a hitch. One last question though. I have a ASUS M2A-VM HDMI Mobo, which has integrated ATI gpu, but they're unused and I have a 9800gt. Now, I got all my win7 drivers from asus' website, and got realtek hd audio drivers network drivers and AMD Chipset drivers. I installed both the audio and network crap, but when I run the AMD chipset drivers, it starts installing ATI catalyst drivers for that integrated gpu, which I don't want. I though the chipset drivers were for the processor or something(?) whatevs So, the real question: Do I need it? Do mobos w/o integrated gpus also have chipset drivers etc. or am I good just going on without installing it?
Yes all mobos have chipset drivers, they just bundled the integrated GPU drivers with them. If there's an advanced option in the driver installation program you can probably select just the chipset drivers.
Well all it does is bring up ATI Catalyst installation and nothing else.
Hmm, well it probably doesn't matter, the Windows 7 chipset drivers work just fine.
Are you absolutely sure? I remember all Windows XP drivers sucked, so have they finally developed usable drivers of their own?
Are you absolutely sure? Though if you really want the AMD drivers I would guess that they're using the Catalyst installation as just a generic installation program, so if you choose the Custom option (versus Express) you'll get a list of things you can install which will include the chipset drivers.

Runs well on my laptop with AMD 64. Ubuntu 64 bit aswell.

It will for sure find your NIC drivers so you can get the other drivers if it doesn't.
It will for sure find your NIC drivers so you can get the other drivers if it doesn't.
That isn't certain, I've installed 7 on several computers where NIC drivers were among the few it couldn't find. Hence my first post where I say make sure you have ethernet/wireless drivers ready.
