The children -- ages 7 months to 11 years -- died Tuesday night when the fire fully engulfed the Mennonite family's two-story house in Loysville, about 25 miles northwest of Harrisburg, Tom Pinkerton of the state police said. The parents, who were outside the house at the time of the fire, survived, as did another child, he said. The father was taking a nap in his milk truck after making a few stops along his delivery route, Pinkerton said. The mother was milking cows in the barn. "While mom's milking cows, her 3-year-old daughter comes running into the barn and the 3-year-old tells the mother that there's smoke inside the house," Pinkerton said. "Mom leaves the barn, comes running out, sees that the house appears to be on fire." The mother went to two neighbors' houses before she could get someone to call 911, he said. She then found her husband sleeping in his milk truck and they rushed back to the home to find their home engulfed in flames and firefighters trying to put out the blaze. The children -- six girls and a boy -- were found dead inside the house.
That's fucking sad as shit.
I can't help but wonder just what started that fire. Also, isn't it a little irresponsible leaving kids that young unattended?
The parents were around... Parents must be pretty oblivious to the world, to not even notice their fucking house burning down.
Title makes it seem as though the parents were negligent. Which they weren't.

What a story
Just....oblivious.
I bet the mum had milked the cows hundreds of times with the kids by themselves in the house.
I bet the mum had milked the cows hundreds of times with the kids by themselves in the house.
Yeah, maybe.
Well I guess we can't say that the cow kicked the lamp over.
Hold on, I know being a hero is stupid and she could have risked her life, but If I had several kids I'd rather them live and I die if I manage to save them. The fact that she didn't attempt to save them shocks me most, extremely sad I know, and she probably panicked and didn't know what to do, but this whole story seems very strange to me, and I was honestly amazed she ran off to the neighbors to call 911 instead of trying to save her soon to be dead children, or what was left of them. poor kids, this just ruined my day :(
I don't want to underestimate your power of will but I am a bit skeptical about you fulfilling this if it actually came to it. It's sorta different imagining it and standing there, feeling the flames.
This happened about 20 mins. away from where I live, it's been a hard event in our area.
It's easy to be an armchair badass and say you'd run into a burning building but actually doing it is another story.
running into a burning house would be painful
Just....oblivious.
Do you honestly think they would have continued about their business had they known the house was on fire? Shit happens. This was their home, if they had known the house was on fire beforehand, they would have done something about it. The barn is probably a good distance away from the house itself.
I dislike the title, it suggests that the parents were irresponsible when they really weren't. They just lost six kids
It's easy to be an armchair badass and say you'd run into a burning building but actually doing it is another story.
Another source did claim she tried, atleast.
Police said the mother tried to enter the house unsuccessfully before calling 911 from a neighbor's house.
Does milking cows somehow make you oblivious to either smell smoke or hear things popping and cracking as a house is burning nearby?
*cough*
Maybe irresponsible was a bad word to use, you get what the fuck I mean.
If they knew the house was on fire, no. That's why I said oblivious. Not lazy.
Technically, if something happens, and you're not there to witness it, that means that you're oblivious to it. You're using the term oblivious in a negative way, as if these people are at fault. If you're oblivious to something bad that's happening, it means that you can't stop it because you don't know about it. How can you be blamed for that?

Just my opinion.
Does milking cows somehow make you oblivious to either smell smoke or hear things popping and cracking as a house is burning nearby?
Barns tend to be far away from houses.
So...couldn't smell smoke, hear flames? Just my opinion.
There's no telling how big the farm is though and the barn could well be on the other side. I know at my neighbor's farm, the barn is really far away and you can't even see the house from it.
The parents were around... Parents must be pretty oblivious to the world, to not even notice their fucking house burning down.
Farms aren't exactly tiny you know.
Oh well, at least the cows are OK.
I couldn't help but laugh when I read the title this is really sad, I feel sorry for them.
I like Mennonites. They are always incredibly friendly, and make awesome furniture while still using electricity. There is this store in my town owned by one, he makes awesome hot candy.
