(aka tell this 16 year old chap how to mount all this crap in the least wall-texting way possible) And are there any particular mandatory steps that I need to take? I will be trying to take this as slow and steady as possible and I will be reading the manuals that come with the components like the bible.

I'm using Newegg's video, I'm sure you can find it if Google isn't too hard.

Ye you can get some really bad ones and people don't look after there gear, just make a point to be as careful as you can with the CPU, when you clip it in it can be a bit hard to push the clip down but along as its within the two litter grooves its fine
Yeah I'm concerned about the cpu and the cooler, especially when it comes to the wires and which goes where but I only hope I don't get any doa components or I will remain with this 2004 pc for a long time.

Two things to remember: 1. Be sure you don't have static on you. Very bad for components. Just discharge yourself often. 2. Never force parts in (except for the CPU when you're locking it in, god damn, that's scary). [editline]27th February 2013[/editline] Oh, and read the motherboard manual.
2. Never force parts in.
Am I the only one who has been extremely annoyed with IDE cables back in the day having to be forced in to sit properly?

Alright I bought the stuff today so far we managed to mount every component but I'm too afraid to use the evo cooler it might not fit the case so I used the stock one. And considering my current cpu is like, from 2004, I won't even try to oc. The only big problem we have now is the wiring, I read the manual but it doesn't seem to make me less confused. And the manual for the psu tells jack shit. So yeah the pc isn't getting anywhere till we are 100% sure what plugs in what. Any ideas, need a screenshot? Oh and another thing we screwed in the ssd in the lowest optical slot lol. I mean ssd's can fit in anything right? as long as they don't move ofc.
Alright, we called my dad's brother and he instantly figured out the wires. Seems everything works fine except there wasn't a third sata 3 connector supplied with the motherboard to connect to the hdd which means I'll have to rely on the ssd so far. trim and ahci were enabled automatically heh.
