Does anyone know how to enable the "Network Store Interface Service" in safe mode? If you're wondering why I need to activate it, read below.
I recently bought a computer (used) from a nearby gaming center. It is currently running Windows Vista Business. The gaming center installed their own program that launches immediately upon login; it fills up the screen and asks for a login/password to their network. Before selling their computers the owner somehow disabled this program. When I turned it on, it started as Vista normally would and took me to the desktop. However, I changed the computer's domain membership to a "workgroup" from "domain". I then restarted and was brought to the game center's login screen, which happens to be built into the operating system somehow. When their login screen is there, I cannot do anything aside from typing in the username/password boxes. I managed to create another user by starting in safe mode with command prompt. When I logged onto this user, their login screen did not show up, but neither did the desktop. I could open the task manager and run processes like explorer.exe and cmd.exe, but since I didn't have administrator rights, I couldn't change the domain membership back....so I restarted, logged into the admin account in safe mode with cmd prompt, then promoted the second account to administrator. Upon logging into this second account the center's login screen shows up unless I'm in safe mode with networking. However, I cannot change the domain membership in safe mode....I need to start the "Network Store Interface Service" to be able to start the "Workstation" Service, which needs to be activated to change domain membership. When I attempted to launch the network store interface, I got a message saying that it cannot be run in safe mode. I cannot access anything outside of safe mode.
