Anyone know when the student scheme starts up again and when it ends? The one where they offer a macbook with a free iPod Touch?
usually at the end of july and the beginning of august.
Does this apply for all MacBooks? In that case I'm getting an Air and selling the Touch.
Word is they'll only be giving out $100 iTunes gift cards this year, which does suck utter dog balls.

Damn, I'd of rather had the iPod Touch. By the time I did get a MacBook the new OS would be out and thus already installed. I wouldnt buy anything with the $100 gift card.

It was the 8GB 2nd gen (or is it 3rd gen but considered 2nd gen because it is 8gb or something? I read about that somewhere), and wasn't of much value to me. Clever of Apple because it didn't support everything in the new iOS that came out around then too
If you buy a Mac after WWDC but before when Lion comes out, I think you can apply to get Lion free anyway, so this is just a cheaper deal really (than free iPods).
lion is only £20. pretty sure ipods cost a little more than that...
I was more meaning the idea that Apple are giving $100 gift certificates in order to get people to buy Lion. Lion is free for anyone who is eligible for this scheme anyway, so I think it is Apple just saving money. Or perhaps the old iPods were actually only costing Apple around $100 (since they were second gen when the rest of the iPods were 3rd gen, and only 8GB), and there is no "cheap" iPod like there was last year.
Apple gets 30% of the $100, more if they buy Lion after official release. It's a way of Apple eliminating the cost and resell of many of the iPods they gave away, thus now they want to lock you in to the App Store. So in reality it's costing them $70 or less instead of the over $100 cost of an iPod. It is quite greedy for a company like Apple to do this, but business is business. I'm not complaining, since I don't want another crappy iPod to deal with.
