I was wondering recently about what Facepunch though about old cars, and whether they were better. I personally believe old cars were better. Take this for example:

My dad owns a 1973 Ford Galaxie 500. Do you want to know how many miles it has on it? 500,000. I kid you not. Now, imagine a car from the 90's or 2000's. I don't think they'd last nearly as long, at least without regular maintenance. The 1973 Ford, as well, was incredibly easy to fix. My dad could take that engine apart and put it back together, easy. My sister has a 1991 Ford Tempo. My dad had to replace the power steering hose. You know what? He had to take apart the entire front half of the car, just to replace that $10 hose. For the '73 Ford, however, it took my dad 5 minutes. This '73 Ford, too, was a tank. Very well built, not a spec of rust since the day he got it ( 1986 ). In fact, when my dad was first starting to drive in 1979, he had a 1970 Oldsmobile.

He was driving down the road, when all of a sudden this car hit him on the drivers side, and he spun out and hit a wall. The injuries he got were a few bruises and scratches and a goose egg on his head. I'm not sure whether that'd be the case nowdays...
Well, I've been talking for long enough. Facepunch, what's your opinion on the subject? ( Sorry for the broken and disjointed storytelling, I'm pretty tired )
I agree, OP.

This shit is where it's at.
Old cars were classy as fuck. Now a days cars look like milk jugs on tiny wheels
I love old cars. Their looks, power, feel, interior, engine. Everything. Nowdays, cars are made with the stupid in mind. Its like steve jobs got his hands on the vehicle industry. Every car is made so you can take it to a shop and have it fixed while paying 5x as much as only the parts would cost. Old cars worked, they worked with the minimal parts required, making them very easy to work on. I have a 1995 mustang GT. The engine compartment is so crammed I almost straigned my wrist replacing a few hoses and some plugs and wires. I recently got a 1976 ramcharger. When I opened up the engine bay i was shocked. I can basically lay inside of it (the engine compartment), yet the engine is bigger than the one on my mustang. I could see every part of the old engine, right at my fingertips.
I'll tell you one thing

They didn't look like electric shavers
somebody's been hanging around the retirement home
they had great cars back then, we have great cars now

This so much
Old cars were definitely built to last, and in my opinion look better.
Performance-wise though, advancements in technology really shine through.
I'd much rather cruise around in a old V8 than anything new, whether it performs better or worse.
My dad's car is from the 80's or so. Someone rear-ended him a few months back and the bumper was dented and dislocated. The guy who hit him totaled his car though, and needed a new one.
Wow, a lot of people here seem to be inclined toward older cars. I like cars such as BMW's, Mercedes, and Audi's, and similar car brands. But it seems like new cars get more and more absurd designs every year.
Seriously, what the fuck is this piece of shit:
Depends on the car, but generally yes.
I like the looks of old muscle cars and new sports cars.
I'd say older cars were better. No plastics added to the car, full metal, which made them heavier, yeah, but they were built to last.
The Pros:
Built to last, whereas cars now with plastics seem to be set to fuck up so you can keep spending money on repairs. (Consumerism)
All metal, which means that in an accident against a modern car, you're more likely to survive. (Come on, a shitload of metal against a car with metal and plastic?)
Those who know how can repair stuff themselves, the motors and parts were simpler to figure out.
The Cons:
The heavier thing made them gas guzzlers.
When something DOES fuckup, it'll cost more to replace it. All the parts have got to be ordered from somewhere.
I'd think I'd rather go with an old car than the newest model.
I liked boxier cars, like the old Buick Regal and Crown Victoria.
Old cars looks so luxurious with all the details and modelwork.
Not sure performance wise, but old cars certainly looks a lot better than the cars nowadays.
They certainly looked alot cooler. but if they were overall better? I don't think so.
Look at this bitch, it's awesome.

fuck yes. Especially the old VW's which still go strong today.

Err, no, the car is more likely to survive, but you're going to be coming to a dead stop on the inside of a big hunk of metal in under a couple of seconds.
Newer cars have crumple zones, collapsing steering columns and the like, they're designed to take most of the impact so the car gets smashed to bits instead of your skull.
Older cars were much more well built than today's 9-hour assembly by robot cars
No of course not what kind of question is that.
Look better? That's down to opinion.
I always drive that dukes of hazzard type of looking car in GTA, that car is so sex.

Shit mpg
Shit handling
Shit accommodations
Shit suspension
Shit emissions
Civics and Volvo 240s often go for that long before needing engine replacements and are far more economical
If you want a V8 equivalent then the Crown Victoria does that as well
