Netanyahu, after what critics are calling a stinging defeat on the international stage,is already maneuvering to mine deep-seated feelings among many Israelis that their country and its policies toward the Palestinians are overly criticized in a world where deadlier conflicts rage.
He has tried to rally Israelis around him by portraying the anti-settlement resolution as a challenge to Israel's claimed sovereignty over all of Jerusalem.
PS:Also wanted to put this too in the title but i did not have space,so he is also looking for Donald Trump's support on the settlement issue.Honestly Netanyahu can go fuck himself,he is acting like a pampered child and not like the conscious(pardon my potato english) president he is supposed to be to the Israeli people.
Honestly Netanyahu can get fucked. The world would be better off if he wasn't in any position of power.
i think his protest is going to succeed, apparently obama is stepping down next month
What is this supposed to accomplish. If Trump is most likely going to do what Netanyahu wants why throw a tantrum?
This just makes Israel look dumb. It's doubling down on getting upset your human rights violations are actually being scrutinized.
What they don't tell you is Obama basically did the same thing in Israel with our tax payer money, but that's ok because obama is good and netanyahu is bad!
So this is what happens when Netanyahu doesn't have the US to veto shit for them.
Maximum tantrum.
If anything he should be taking this as a reminder that the US won't always be there for them and start working on not being dependent on the US to cover for them.
as a Likudnik, I'm just utterly confused about why Bibi would throw such a tantrum over this. What's the point when Trump is coming into office next month?
This entire incident has just been a shitshow. Bibi begged Trump to ask Sisi to delay the vote, Sisi complied and then other nations took up the sponsorship that Egypt dropped, embarrassing them and making them less likely to be friendly to the US and Israel. It's a fact that Obama and Bibi hate each other but he's gone soon, why coordinate protests against him? Focus on the fact that the UK with the "pro-Israel" Theresa May voted against Israel and demand answers from May instead of getting pissed off at someone who will soon be a political nobody.
Jasus, while I dislike certain parts of Obama's presidency, he is hardly that bad, surely.
How much control would he have had over this UN vote anyway?

Objectively, yes, he is better than Netanyahu is. He wants the two-state solution to succeed, but the Israelis are still building their settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Bibi's a piece of shit.

2 state solution had a chance with Gaza. Gaza was essentially the 'practice' 2 state solution and it failed when Hamas was elected. If Hamas can manufacture rockets with Iranian assistance with all their land surrounded by 2 hostile states, imagine what a Palestinian nation in the West Bank can do with the heart of Israel right next to the country. This doesn't even account for the fact that if Israel was invaded again, the narrowest part of israel would be reduced to 9 miles across if you dont include, making it easy for the potential invader to split Israel in half.
I hate Netanyahu so much. How does Israeli government work? When will this old fool be gone for good?
The Israeli Government system is terrible. It's a big reason why not much is done about settlements.
The Knesset, or government, uses a multi-party proportional representation system - whatever percentage of votes you get is whatever percentage of seats you get in parliament. There are 120 seats, and you need 61 for a majority, but no party has ever received this many votes. So, parties form coalition governments.
Likud, Netanyahu's party, has received the most amount of votes in the 2015 election, so they choose the prime minister - in this case, himself. It's a right wing party that recently made more coalitions with other right-wing parties. Unfortunately, in order to form a majority, almost all coalition majorities include the Zionist and Orthodox parties (namely The Jewish Home, Yesh Atid and Shas) - parties that support settlements. It's no surprise, then, that little is done about the settlements.
The Zionist Union, a center-to-left coalition tried to depose him in 2015, but failed. As long as Likud keeps getting the most amount of votes, he will be Prime Minister.

that isn't the fault of Israel's system, that is the fault of people who keep giving Netanyahu's party votes

Israel wouldn't need to be invaded if it stops with its hostility to other countries. This is why Gaza received assistance from Iran because although the occupation in Gaza stopped, Palestinians continued to be bullied by the Israeli government. There shouldn't have to be a 'practice' 2 state solution, it should just be done and then peace will finally happen.

Two state solution will not bring peace, it will give Israel everything to be able to declare an actual war on the this new Palestinian state, They view this Palestinian state as infringing on their biblical borders.

israel is secular, the only way they would declare a war of biblical conquest on Palestine would be if Kach somehow revived, was made legal again, and the religious parties won the Knesset.

Yes you're right on that they will view the new state as an infringement on their "biblical lands" but declaring war on Palestine would basically be suicide seeing as how the new state will be backed by most of the middle east

Israel has religious influence in their parliament. They already have taken territory from other countries before to expand their influence, which includes the West Bank seeing as how most if not all the settlers are there for religious reasons. Hell, even Israel was founded on religious Zionist principles.

I'm going to say we are BOTH Right, It would be suicide for Israel to declare war on the new state. It would rather fund Deniable Ops against this state and create a Mico Cold War

the zionists who founded Israel were strictly areligious with most of them being atheists. Many Haredim don't support the state of Israel for religious reasons.
For the record, the thread title is wrong. Netanyahu isn't Israel's president. He's the Prime Minister.

Gave the baby his pacifier quick!
I say sanction, North Korean style
Yeah how dare the people vote for parties that represent them
where exactly did I say that
I just said that Israeli government policy isn't a result of the Israeli political system, it's a result of what people vote for.
Gave the baby his pacifier quick!

Because sanctions totally don't hurt normal people more than the government.
Because sanctions totally don't hurt normal people more than the government.
The "normal people" are living there illegally
The "normal people" are living there illegally
There was nothing actually illegal about the forming of Israel. Not suiting whatever moral compass you have going on in there doesn't mean it was against the law.
Fuck Netanyahu and the Zionist lobby. Basically starting down the same road as the Nazis did, and claiming anti-semitism whenever opposed.
So I have a tangentially related question. Where the hell did "Bibi" come from? It would be like if the US' president was called Barack "Joe" Obama. Benjamin "Bibi" Netanyahu?

The hebrew version of Benjamin is Binyamin. Bibi is a common nickname for people who are named Binyamin.
Makes more sense than Richard "Dick" Nixon

Dick is the short form of Richard though.
they both make sense in context.
