(CNN)Journalist and Intercept co-founder Glenn Greenwald said Saturday he believes both the CIA and FBI as well as Russia interfered in the US presidential election. CNN's Michael Smerconish asked Greenwald whether he gave "any credence to the conspiracy theory" that the CIA, along with the Russians, had attempted to manipulate the results of the election, and the journalist replied simply that it "was probably both."
http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/11/politics/greenwald-cia-and-fbi-election-interferance-cnntv/index.html Please don't be partisan in thread... This interview is I think over a week old now, but still relevant I guess. I have respect for Glenn Greenwald.
This interview is I think over a week old now, but still relevant I guess. I have respect for Glenn Greenwald.
That definitely doesn't help his reputation in FP, if you are the one saying it.
"I also think the FBI clearly sided with Donald Trump and did a lot of damaging leaks on purpose to hurt Hillary Clinton," he added, an apparent reference to the bureau's handling of the investigation into Clinton's email.
Well yeah? The way Comey announced the investigation into Clinton's !!emails!! so very conveniently close to the election (literally days before the polls opened) was more than a little suspicious (not to mention unprofessional, a complete deviation from protocol that violated at least two departmental policies) for one thing. At the same time, they were quietly looking into Trump and his cohorts' association with Russia, but we heard nary a peep about that investigation until after the election was already done. After what happened with him last year, I don't trust Comey one bit. Apparently the Justice Department didn't/doesn't trust him either; back in January, they decided to review his behavior and investigate what went on. That pretty much sums up the affair as far as the FBI goes. With the CIA, who knows? Sean Hannity was originally the one who claimed (in conjunction with Wikileaks) that they'd used malware to false flag the Russians, so those sorts of accusations and conspiracies don't mean much. highly doubt the cia would be bothered to rig the US elections but the fbi certainly did at the end of october. this whole thing has been made so much worse because trump is such an asshole to everybody but his core voters and the republicans seem to ignore that theres a minority party anymore, like the republicare act is such a goddamn farce because they have to fucking break everything, string the whole healthcare system to collapse then expect to pass a bipartisan bill at some point in the future after blaming the dems
I would argue that trump has also been an asshole to his core voters
Man who's career depends on perpetuating the Deep State myth perpetuates the Deep State myth with literally zero evidence to back up his claim. If Maddow gets raked over the coals for saying entirely truthful things about Trump's administration's coincidental ties to Russian interests I'd expect Greenwald to get the same treatment.
With the CIA, who knows? The entire theory that the CIA used malware to make hacks that exposed the DNC's dirty laundry (and certainly contributed to Clintons defeat) while appearing Russian in an effort to de-legitimize Trump's presidency after he won because of the thing the CIA did is on it's face so full of holes and circular logic so as to be considered farcical out of hand. You don't even have to get into the whole "capability does not mean culpability" aspect, wherein saying
"The CIA has technology to make intrusions look like they came from a Russian source, ergo they hacked the DNC"
is about as logical as concluding that
"The US government has technology to quickly melt very sturdy metals, ergo they set up thermite devices all over the WTC and did 9/11"
