[All discussion regarding Boehner, the debt ceiling, and the like shall be brought here, no not make any more threads] Now, that the thread's taken on a more general topic, I think it's a good idea to try and lay out what this will mean if we default. For the common man, what it would mean is that interest rates for loans, insurance, credit cards, and mortgages will go up tremendously. In addition, things like Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, and Unemployment Insurance checks will not go out on time if at all. Members of the military may also not receive pay on time. When the default actually occurs, things like these social services will have to take a backseat to immediately servicing all foreign debt. For the nation as a whole, a default will mean our international credit rating goes down, which means we won't have as much of an ability to borrow from economic partners like China, Japan, or the UK as much as we do. Foreign bonds, investments, all that kind of stuff will be under fire, and Wall Street will be in trouble as well. Stock Market scores will also most likely go down immensely. This may sound somewhat frightening or catastrophic, and that's because in many ways it is. So, I implore those of you not only in the US but in the rest of the world to take an interest and be concerned, because in the end it will affect every last one of us, regardless of ideology or class. Original thread, "Boehner's bill passes the House, but dies in the Senate. Senate Republicans threaten a filibuster if Reid's bill comes to a vote." [release]WASHINGTON - Lawmakers who said they were determined to avoid an unprecedented government default remained at an impasse over the raising the nation's debt limit Saturday as prospects of economic chaos loomed. Senators were expected to continue talking even though their efforts publicly came to an abrupt halt Friday evening after the Democratic-controlled Senate voted 59-41 to table Republican House Speaker John Boehner's bill, effectively killing it less than two hours after the House passed it. Democrats opposed the measure because it would require another debt-limit debate early next year. After the tabling vote, Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky could not agree on how to proceed on a bill by Reid. McConnell wanted a filibuster, requiring a 60-vote supermajority to move Reid's bill forward, and Reid wanted a procedure allowing his bill to move with a simple majority. Reid said McConnell refused negotiate with him.[/release] Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43949638/ns/politics-capitol_hill/
So that's it. Gentlemen, it's been a privilege posting with you tonight.
Wow. So it's quite clear, they WANT a default at the "hands of the democrats", so they can try and spin this to be Obama's fault. Hey, Glaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaber What's good about what these treasonous scumbags are doing?(I consider this as close to treason as possible, letting the country die so you can try and regain power...)
Just the constant back and forth cock-blocking. And people wonder why nothing gets fixed.

Additionally, the only reason Boehner's bill passed the House was because he got the 216 he needed. All Republican votes. When the bill reached the Senate, it was tabled thanks to votes by both Republican and Democratic Senators.
Hey guys. I just want to say. I'll miss you when the power goes out, and the streets fill with hungry, and hoovervilles start popping up. Maybe one day once we get the post office back up and running, somehow scrounging up enough money for that, we can send each other snail mail. That sounds fun, right?

And, you've seen the House, they can't even tie their own shoes." [editline]30th July 2011[/editline]
;31425293']Hey guys. I just want to say. The Democrats actually seem to be shifting their position. Senator Reid and Representative Pelosi are both adopting a position that there will be no further cuts without revenue increases.
Only in America does so much freedom and attempts to not have monopolies be a bad thing
The Democrats actually seem to be shifting their position. It's certainly proving to be an anxious showdown.
nobody expects the american filibuster...
Who's going to draw and fire first? It's certainly proving to be an anxious showdown.
It's hard to tell. The bill's been sent back to the House now, and they're going to need to change something, but it'll never pass the Senate without McConnell willing to negotiate with the Democratic Senators.
Expected Boehner to die in the senate was disappointed
Expected Boehner to die in the senate was disappointed
"Boehner's bill dies..." How?
If nothing happens, and we default, I'll miss you guys.

wait wait, so, rate me dumb but what will EXACTLY happen if the US defaults in three days?
except canada currently has a conservative majority government. move to Scandinavia instead.
wait wait, so, rate me dumb but what will EXACTLY happen if the US defaults in three days?
it's all over everyone dies well that second part is an exaggeration, we won't die right away
except canada currently has a conservative majority government. move to Scandinavia instead.
if conservatism is a no-no, avoid finland
wait wait, so, rate me dumb but what will EXACTLY happen if the US defaults in three days?
America will be forced to sell off Alaska, California, Hawaii and the southern tip of Florida to China so that they can compensate for the loss of assets.
also lamo his name is boner

Sure, this bill is worse than what the Democrats had suggested, but it would at least avert a default and give additional time for each party to negotiate a long-term bill. There is pretty much no chance of Reid's bill ever getting through the house as well, and there can be a blame on Republicans for his potentially not getting through, but the Democrats are at fault here for voting to not avoid the chance of default. If anything, both parties are at fault for this whole crisis.
America will be forced to sell off Alaska, California, Hawaii and the southern tip of Florida to China so that they can compensate for the loss of assets.
To bad no one will miss any of those states.
Is it time for a revolution you guys.?
also lamo his name is boner
In other news the sky is blue and fire hurts.
America will be forced to sell off Alaska, California, Hawaii and the southern tip of Florida to China so that they can compensate for the loss of assets.
Unless I'm really bad as noticing satire, but that is absolutely not true. I have not read from any valid source anywhere in regards to such a thing possibly happening.
