Xbox Live Silver: Will it work with basic Satellite Internet?

I'm not sure if this falls under this category but here goes.
I have Satellite Internet from HughesNet, and that pretty much means I can't use Xbox LIVE gold (or any other multiplayer service on the PC). Althought I pretty much gave up on that, I was wondering if I could still use Silver to download DLC and whatnot.
If you can't help me, just say so and have a mod lock the thread.
If you can help me, thanks.
Silver can be used to do everything Gold can, with the exception of gold only timed-exclusives, and online play.
Hope this helps.
Another thing to note is that Microsoft restricts you from sending (and I think receiving) voice messages, and you won't be able to join parties.
As long as the connection is stable there shouldn't be any problems
Try it download some free demo or something.
My connection is pretty stable. I don't care about messaging and multiplayer. Thanks for the info.
Now I guess all I need is a damn long ethernet cable.

satellite internet is identical to dsl or cable or 3g or whatever. the problem is that satellite internet has to be bounced off of a satelite, which means that you'll have a ridiculously high latency in online games, probably 800+ from personal experience. you can't avoid this.
you can run xbox live off of any internet connection, it's just that your high latency won't allow you to play games. silver doesn't play games so yes it works
Is 3G available in the area? Online gaming is actually playable in my experience (At least on HSPA level 3G) compared to satellite.

Its sort of irrevelant to talk about the high latency from his satellite connection because:
A) The OP clearly states he knows this in his post
B) Silver can't play online. No point in talking about a feature he can't use regardless of his connection.
It has already been stated that silver will work for him.
The only problem would be is if he needs to make a large download. It could take forever and eat through your monthly limit. Hopefully all the OP wants are smaller downloads and DLC every so often.
