With pre-production in full-swing, a confirmed release date of December 18, 2015, has been set for Lucasfilm's highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII.
"We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," said Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios.
Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams (Super 8, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek) and is being scripted by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi). Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, with Tommy Harper (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Jack Ryan, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) serving as executive producers. John Williams is returning to score Star Wars: Episode VII.
Shooting is scheduled to begin spring 2014 at Pinewood Studios.
John fucking Williams, this is going to be sweet
late 2015 will be crazy first jaws 19 then star wars oh man can't wait
This is going to be hilariously bad, just watch.
I just finished watching the original trilogy again a few days ago and I'm ready for more Star Wars. I know that Abrams's films have polarized people's opinion of him, but I have faith that he could make a great Star Wars film.
And hey, it can't get worse than the prequels, can it?
yay my birthday

now let's hope there won't be any extensive executive meddling
Kinda weird seeing it released so late in the year as opposed to its regular May release dates.
Holy shit it's gonna rake in so much money

You're thinking of DICE with Battlefront.
i'm not excited for the movie i'm excited for the plinkett review of the movie

I don't understand it. Why do people hate the prequels so much?

Because JJ Abrams invented the anamorphic lens flare.
I don't understand it. Why do people hate the prequels so much?
Because they are really bad movies, not just bad Star Wars movies.

Plinkett pretty much covers every gripe ever, with creepy dark humor to boot.

Introducing massive plot holes and stupid characters tends to piss fans of the older movies off.
Can't wait, be interesting to see what has been changed. Wonder when we will get a trailer as well.
I love how all of you are doubting this movie before its even out yet. I have full faith in this movie this time around. With Lucas out of the director/writer chair, well get a good Star Wars movie. Plus Abrams is a great director. So i dont know what the hell some of problems are.
Seeing as George Lucas has nothing to do with this I remain cautiously optimistic
I'm holding out hope. Lawrence Kasdan is co-writing. . .dude wrote Empire and Jedi.
Let's not forget that the best Star Wars films were the ones Lucas didn't write/direct. Kasdan wrote Empire, with Irvin Kirschner directing, and Jedi with Richard Marquand directing.
There was auditions yesterday in Wales (correct me on that one), but you needed to be within your late teens (18/19) to early 20's or something like that. :v
At least the music will be good.
i've got a feeling that this will fail
but i really really really want this movie to turn out good
i mean after the prequels and all....

So you're saying you have a bad feeling about this?
I'm hoping it's good, but the Star Trek movies weren't fantastic, especially the second one which was mostly scenes from Star [del]Wars[/del] Trek II reshot with Spock taking Kirk's position.
Is Damon Lindelof a writer for star wars 7?
it is critical that we know, the success or failure of this movie rests solely on the fact that he is or isn't working on this film
This is going to be hilariously bad, just watch.
Bad or not, it's probably gonna get shit for not being the second coming of christ
I'd rather stay neutral. I get more Williams music. Good enough for me, if the movie is entertaining even better
I want to be exited but I really just cant

i don't understand how anyone that likes star wars can't be excited about this. that is an incredible group of people working on this movie.

the prequels had incredible soundtracks tho

this song conveys a better love story than the actual love story. plus the clone wars tv series is actually very good as well
Because JJ Abrams invented the anamorphic lens flare.

you'd have to be pretty blind not to see that it is a technique used abundantly in his films. regardless, i actually really like JJ Abrams so i reckon this could be good
