Well, built my new PC the other day..played some games just fine..
Was playing Starcraft an hour or so ago and I noticed that I was starting to get random lag...hmm, new PC, shouldn't be doing this.
Anyways, looked at my temps...goddamn cores were hitting 100 degrees celcius which is my throttling down point..
Idle they seem to be hovering around 50 degrees which is probably just under what I should be seeing on a full load.
I got a front, rear and above fan with nice airflow into the case as my GPU is only 45 degrees under load so that should be fine..my CPU cooler is mounted in the correct direction as the air is being pulled in from the case and pushed out the back but the actual heat sink metal parts feel like room temperature and the air being pushed off feels almost cool.
I'm probably thinking re-application of thermal paste but that's a pain in the balls...any wild suggestions or am I going to have to bite the bullet here and do it again?
Maybe if you use one of them plastic clip type coolers then one might not be clipped in fully.
Thermal Paste, as you said.
I opened this thread expecting to say you have horrible airflow, but it doesn't sound like that's the case.
Only apply a thin layer of thermal paste. Very thin layer, then make sure the heatsink is clipped in, screwed in nice and snug. Not too tight, but tight enough it cannot move.

This is a Zalman, pretty much bolted in place and sturdy...doesn't budge at all.
Wierd thing is..just had a game of starcraft II, same conditions and max temps were only ~85 but holding steady..last time they were bouncing from 80-100..
Also before the freezing origionally in SCII I was playing Arma 2 expansion for at least an hour with it being maxed out and no problems..
Bleh, maybe I will just try keeping an eye on things for the next few days..
Looking at creep in SC2 on Ultra rapes my CPU and GPU temperatures. What Zalman cooler is it?

That one.
Tried re-seating it...same temps, tried putting a small small amount of grease on the actual cooler itself but still, same temps..
Would be handy if I could find a list of average running temps for these cores but all I see is google searches about people overclocking blah.
Might test with the fan that came with the cores to see if that makes any difference.
is the fan at full speed?
