Alright, so, recently I upgraded from a 560ti to a 960. The first thing I noticed is that every game has this horrid microstutter going on while the actual framerate is at high 60s, like every second there's this jitter or little jump forward happening. Checking frametimes with MSI Afterburner shows regular spikes constantly. The games I've tested were KF2, Deathtrap, BF4 and RE Revelations 2. 2D games like Terraria and general computer usage (like video playback) don't seem to be affected.
Things I tried:
- Uninstalling drivers
- Reinstalling clean drivers (both with DDU and Nvidia's clean install option)
- Trying other drivers
- Installing drivers with nothing but the drivers themselves and PhysX (no Geforce Exp., etc)
- Changing cables around, changing PCI-e slots, reseating the GPU and RAM
- Memtest
- Turning off core parking
- Changing power settings to high performance
- Setting pre-rendered frames 1-4
- Setting NVIDIA settings to single monitor mode and prefer max performance
- Updating my BIOS
- Reinstalling Windows
My specs:

(Monitor says 59hz but I tried it in 60hz, no dice)
With a Corsair TX750 PSU. Everything at base settings, no overclocking ever attempted.
Interestingly enough, setting KF2 to all lowest at 720p made the stutter vanish at +250fps... but it all goes back to shit the moment I cap the framerate. Stutter is also barely noticeable in Revelations 2 in some parts, terrible in others. BF4 and Deathtrap are just awful all the time. Someone told me to check for DPC latency due to drivers/programs running but I imagine that'd be gone with a Windows reinstall and I'm not really sure if I checked correctly.
Even getting weird-ass stuttering in GZDoom of all things.
I'm pulling my hair out here. Any ideas?
try using driversweeper, and see how that goes.
if you put your old 560 back in, does the problem occur?
try using driversweeper, and see how that goes.

I used DDU to remove all drivers and I already did a complete Windows reinstallation so I don't think that would have any effect
I haven't tried putting my 560ti back in, but I'm sure this wasn't happening before I upgraded.
Does the 960 have the slower memory part that the 970 has? If so, look at how much memory the game is using, since it might be due to the slow memory.

No, that's solely a 970 problem.
that's hardly even a problem.
really wish people would stop complaining about something that would hardly affect the average gamer, or even hardcore gamers.
my 970 runs all my games fine with no stutter at 1440p maxed, so i never see that "memory" lag issue.
put your 560 in, see if the results repeat.

he wasn't complaining, he was just asking
so quick to defend your hardware
he wasn't complaining, he was just asking

people are all over complaining on the 970s vram "lie" and how it makes the card worthless to buy.
also, i'm defending the 970 as a whole, not just mine.
it's the best solid price/performace right night, until maybe amd release its 300 series.
seriously, read.

I don't know what you're on about, no one complains about that shit anymore. Everyone's accepted it at this point
I have a 970 as well and I frequently browse /r/nvidia, /r/pcmasterrace, and /r/buildapc and the 970 is still widely recommended and purchased.
So, seriously, fuck off with that bullshit. You complaining about people complaining about something that isn't complained about anymore is keeping the issue alive.
On with the actual purpose of this thread...
I've heard of 960s stuttering like this before, and the stuttering was not found on your 560 ti, it's most likely a sign that the card is defective. If I were you I'd try to replace it.
get bent bro, look through threads, there was a unanimous amount of people that complained, that are still complaining about it, i mean obviously look, it's still recognized as a "issue".
reddit is hardly a place where people complain, it's more of a playground for people.
so seriously, maybe read my fucking post before you post bullshit, then maybe we'd have a actual intellectual discussion.
i simply stated i'm tired of it being labeled a crippling issue with people, simply because it's not.
That was a bad upgrade anyway honestly, should of saved for the next series, 9xx imo is not a huge step from 5xx.
Anyway you did everything that I would have tried so that's confusing.
I suggest you upgrade your ram to 8gb or 16 gb if you can. 4gb is obsolete now.
I'm 80% sure stuttering is due to something else and not the gpu.
"Setting pre-rendered frames 1-4"
I don't see the point of that setting btw I suggest setting it to default. I tried it on gta v once and I got some really noticeable input lag with some frame loss.

like, huge.
I have some pretty bad microstuttering in CS:GO and some other older games as well, even with SLI disabled. I heard this is currently a driver issue.
I got a 780ti classified. I also have this microstutter sometimes but its inconsistant and does not bother me as much. I did not use to have this before. I also play cs go at 144hz so its pretty noticble but not present sometimes. It has been like this for atleast 3 latest nvidia drivers. Dunno how to fix. Issues are funny with drivers i had the chance to try out a 980 card while it performed fine it did not under heavy load my monitor would go no signal found. Really weird im staying the fuck away from 9xx series for now espeicly with those displayport. Issues they got going on in drivers for as long as since they came out. Nvidia needs to get their shit straight for people in minority with high end gear.

It's looking that way but I'm not completely ready to believe it yet.
Today I booted up KF2 to try to record the stutters and I didn't notice any. Didn't even change anything from last time I tried. Odd. Wi'll keep testing.

People should be pissed at how much of a better card it could of been without the memory debuff.
No, that's solely a 970 problem.
Even if it wasn't there's no way in hell GZDoom of all things could activate that issue. GZDoom is incapable of using that much vram.
People should be pissed at how much of a better card it could of been without the memory debuff.
If it weren't for that memory "debuff" the card would cost about $40-80 or so less than the 980 does not ~$220 less.

The GTX 670 released at the price of 399, as did the GTX 770, and so did the GTX 970, however the 570 was 349. I seriously doubt NVidia would raise a mid-high tier card price solely based on performance.
I don't see what you gain in "quoting" debuff in your post, the cards performance was weakened you said it yourself, it was more rude of you to do than anything else.

The 970 was actually launched at $329, not $399.
The 970 was actually launched at $329, not $399.
Oh sorry about that, I didn't really pay attention to the launch at the time so I tried using this announcement to get the price.
But now that brings to question, did NVidia lower the performance of the card just so they could put more heat on AMD?
Nope, it's still here, but it's subtler and with more time between hitches. Still annoying me.
I don't see what you gain in "quoting" debuff in your post, the cards performance was weakened you said it yourself, it was more rude of you to do than anything else.
Because it's not something worth noting for anyone except those who would need a better card in the first place. Actually using up enough vram to run into that issue will run into issues with the card not being able to keep up regardless of the vram deal.
On the other hand I don't see what you gain in adamantly attacking it when the only legitimate issues at all came from miscommunication and not the card itself which performs just fine, especially for its price.
Just please stop arguing about this. It's been long enough that all the facts are out and some people will just refuse to recognize them.
