http://games.on.net/article/11612/Video_Game_Music_Finally_Wins_a_Grammy_Civ_4s_Baba_Yetu
In a first for video gaming music - something very near and dear to our hearts at games.on.net, where we give away free soundtracks and write entire articles about our favourites - the theme song to the immensely, ridiculously popular Civilization IV has picked up a Grammy Award, for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). The game picked up its award for its inclusion on the debut album "Calling all Dawns" by the artist Christopher Tin, although it was originally scored to serve as the theme for Sid Meier's best-selling game. You can find it listed here at number 86, and if you haven't heard the song before, then it's not too late to enjoy what is probably one of the most delightful, uplifting piece of video game music to ever be crafted. Enjoy.
This calls for a national holiday.

Also here's the video of them winning it
That won? Really? There are a lot of better game songs out there....
I've heard shit like this a thousand times before. This "song" sucks ass. Boxes because the "joyous native peoples" song in their language has been rehashed over and over again? Think about it, this has been remade dozens maybe even hundreds of times before. They all sound the same, especially when it's done in an African language. They all sound the same and give the same basic message, if there's one present to begin with.
The best soundtrack to any game I've ever heard was undoubtedly Red Dead Redemption.
Shit yes, I love that song. Played it in band in high school as well
Sounds like The Lion King.

Holy fuck I love this song. It's the most strangely addicting thing ever. Which reminds me I need to get back to Civ some day.
What category did it win in?
What category did it win in?
Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)
So many games with so much better music...
Wow, not two days ago I got some of my friends into civ 4 and we were talking about how addicting the song is.
When's it gonna be Nobuo Uematsu's turn?
I always thought I was the only one who would sit through the title screen for a while every time I start the game because of the song. I hate that I can't play it on this computer :smith:
I've heard shit like this a thousand times before. This "song" sucks ass.
Of course it sucks ass, it won a Grammy. EDIT: This was an intentionally silly and ridiculous thing to say and shame on all of you for agreeing with me
I was expecting a song of this caliber on Civ V. Sadly, I was disappointed.
I've heard shit like this a thousand times before. This "song" sucks ass.
why is song in quotes it contains lyrics, so there isn't any doubt as to whether or not it's a song
I don't know what you guys are on, but this song is fucking great. It's a well deserved award. This is real music.
Should have won a Grammy.
I've heard shit like this a thousand times before. This "song" sucks ass.
Grammies won by Civ 5: One Grammies won by TAU!K Ze-ro
There's also a lot of music in Mafia 2 that is award material. I mean the actual orchestrated original songs.
Should have won a Grammy.
Fuck that if we're going for Western video game music the Outlaws theme should have won years ago
Of course it sucks ass, it won a Grammy.
this just in The Suburbs is a bad album i came in to the thread expecting it to be Sudden Death from Guitar Hero. I'm glad I was wrong.

Plus it sounds too much like lalo schifrin's work.
its like im watching the lion king
I'm glad this song, it too is one of my favorite video game songs. I'm glad some techno song didn't win this shit. Not to say techno isn't cool and all, but this is -real- music, requiring people to play instruments. 1:43 in the OP's video is my favorite part.
