Hasn't this been done a lot before? I think I remember a few of these in the Source engine tbh
It looks good for a heavily modified Quake 3 engine title from 2007. But then when you've got such a minimalist aesthetic it's hard not to look good usually.
Probably the only reason they wrote about it is because it's a 9 year old game. I also don't remember any pools in Mirror's Edge.

A lot of the recreations are able to make the geometry, but the light is where they all just fail.
