I found a very promising pre-built, can I beat it by building.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a new computer, we were going to build one until he found a more-powerful pre-built machine from CyberpowerPC,
for $958 USD it comes with these specs
* CASE: Azza Orion Gaming Mid-Tower Case with See-Thru Side Panel (Black with Red Lightning)
* Extra Case Fan Upgrade: Default case fans
* POWER SUPPLY Upgrade: 600 Watts Power Supplies (SLI Ready Power Supply)
* CPU: AMD Phenomâ„¢II X4 925 Quad-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology
* MOTHERBOARD: Asus M4A77TD PRO AM3 DDR3 AMD 770 Chipset CrossFireX Technology SATA RAID MB w/GbLAN, USB2.0, &7.1Audio
* MEMORY: 4GB (2GBx2) PC1333 DDR3 PC3 10666 Dual Channel Memory (Corsair or Major Brand)
* VIDEO CARD: ATI Radeon HD 5850 PCI-E 16X 1GB Video Card (Major Brand Powered by ATI)
* HARD DRIVE: Single Hard Drive (1TB (1TBx1) SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM HDD)
* Optical Drive: LG 22X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Dual Layer Drive (BLACK COLOR)
* MOUSE: XtremeGear Optical USB 3 Buttons Gaming Mouse
* Wireless 802.11B/G Network Card: PCI Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps Network Interface Card
* OS: Microsoft® 64-bit Vista Home Premium with free Windows 7 upgrade
* Free copy of Halo 2($19 from newegg)
What I want to know is
1)Can we get a better computer by building, newegg is great.
2)Is cyberpowerpc a reputable company.
1). Yes
2). I've never been the biggest fan of them, but I can say a build it yourself is your best bet.
You could do better on newegg
My friend has had experience from CyberPower and it was only average. The power supply blew after around a few years and the sound card that came with it wasn't even installed, but was flopping around inside the case.
MOUSE: XtremeGear Optical USB 3 Buttons Gaming Mouse
That's a normal mouse
Ffff broke my automerge :argh:
My try at a build was less powerful then it, if anyone can whip up something better I'd be happy to give it a go.

Total = $950
Difference between this one and the cyberpower is that the newegg computer has quality parts. I also might see if I can lower the price with combo deals.

no just no
Not to mention the 600w power supply it comes with is probably a $25 piece of turd.
Contrary to popular belief, CyberpowerPC is actually a halfway decent company.
Of course, you could always do better with a custom.
And generic turd-like RAM, case, hard and optical drives.
I admit, the cases are always a bit ricery. But they usually use halfway decent RAM and optical drives. Usually a Hitachi or Samsung HDD.

Okay, so we decided to get this, a modified version of Yumyumbublegum's suggestion.

Thanks for all the input.
tomorrow the 5770 is being released just wait a moment

How big is the performance gain? We're both a somewhat new to physically building computers so buying a just released GPU feels unsettling to me.

It will be better. And that's silly. Like saying a newly released ferrari is a bad idea for a new high speed car.
5770 is pretty much an upclocked 4870 with less RAM bandwidth. The 5850 would blow it out of the water.

Not to mention that benches show it performs worse than an HD4870 in most occasions for some fucking reason.

Eh, maybe once they release some new drivers the performance will increase.
Apart from in Farcry 2 where its a few fps off a GTX295.
Okay, due to budget concerns we can only spend 800-900(before shipping and handling).
I put this together, anywhere we can do better?

Get a cheaper power supply and get another 2GB of ram.

The quantity is already 2.
Go with an i5
Go with an i5
That would end up tacking on about $100 since we's need a more expensive mobo as well.

There's a 500$ combo deal. But it comes with a really un-needed 1.5tb HDD.

All you'd need to add is a case, a dvd drive and a Gpu.
But, if you want to match the OP computer, it goes above what the OP computer cost is. See my posts a few above. Uses the combo. I could use the other guys antec 300 + vista.
Unfortunately they raised the price on the combo deal so no i5.
