It's a history book published in 1959 about the middle ages, but it has been borrowed from the Grangemouth Victoria Public library since May. (I live in Edinburgh)
I found it in the attic and read it thoroughly, quite a good read actually. (The Middle Ages, 395 to 1500) However it was meant to be only borrowed for 2 weeks before returning and there is a fine of half a penny every day the book is retained beyond that date.
The even bigger problem is that the book was borrowed on May the 4th, 1959.
So I have a large problem here guys, if I return it I might get a hefty fine.
However it is still in very good quality despite being over half a century old.
What do I do then chaps?
Nothing's happened in the past 51 years you've owned it, why give it back?
Quick, move to another country!
return it

Return it, they'll just laugh with you and not charge you.
We definitely care and were very glad to hear this.
I'm pretty sure they'd let you keep it.
Besides, I doubt you're the one who borrowed it to begin with and thus they can't fine you anyway.

do it

oh shut it
Drop it off when nobody is at the front desk with a little note saying "sorry" stuck to it.
return the book only to check it out again, that will show them librarians

Go up and ask if they will charge you, if its an extreme price, just leave.

Small time.
1828 here.
Throw it at the librarian's head.
That'll teach 'em to keep better track of their books.

I'd follow this.
Honestly though they shouldn't mind, just state you found it.
Shenanigansen should make a comic on how to return a over due book
You can always have a friend ask and return it for you.
But there's never any way they'll suspect you are holding an overdue library book so if things get saucey just leave and don't return the book.
Have people never heard of a replacement fee? The price to get the book new is what you pay
You owe them about £93.32
Holy shit I just did found a website to calculate it and I was off by half a penny :buddy:
Keep that shit.
