remember this thread? http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1318028 something similar happened again... twice. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/black-man-sues-macy-cuffed-making-legit-purchase-article-1.1496735
Rob Brown, star of the HBO show “Treme,” says he was “paraded” through Macy’s Herald Square in handcuffs and detained for an hour after being racially profiled and accused of using a fake card to buy his mother a $1,350 watch. “The Express” star’s allegations against Macy’s come days after the Daily News revealed another high-end retailer, Barneys, was rocked by complaints it had racially profiled two black shoppers for credit card fraud when they made pricey purchases at the snooty store. “Why was I put in cuffs? Why was I even approached?” Brown, 29, asked at his attorney’s office Friday night. “It was a slap in the face.”

Brown, who made his movie debut starring opposite Sean Connery in 2000’s “Finding Forrester,” says he’d been shopping at Macy’s flagship store because he wanted to buy a graduation present for his mother, Myra, who received a degree from Metropolitan Community College. He settled on a $1,350 silver Movado watch with gold trim. Brown said he purchased the last one, the display model, and strolled over to a Sunglass Hut in the store while he was waiting for it to be cleaned. He said he saw some $350 Prada shades he liked and was also going to buy those — but while he was waiting for them to be tightened, he was suddenly swarmed by “at least three” plainclothes officers.

“I had all sorts of forms of ID,” Brown said, but the officers maintained his card was “fake.” The officers told him the ID “was false and that he could not afford to make such an expensive purchase,” the suit says. Brown, who graduated from Amherst College in 2008, said he was fighting to keep his cool because he was worried he’d miss his mom’s ceremony. He said the officers gave him different explanations for why he’d been stopped. One said they’d been called by a suspicious Macy’s employee, while another said they’d been doing a sting operation in the store looking for a crooked clerk.
oh NYPD also did something similar 3 days ago http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/black-barneys-shopper-accused-buying-2g-purse-article-1.1494855
Another black Barneys shopper accused of credit card fraud after buying $2,500 purse Kayla Phillips, 21, says she was swarmed by four plainclothes cops after using her debit card to buy a $2,500 orange suede Céline bag. Her experience is eerily similar to that of Trayon Christian, 19, who filed a discrimination suit this week accusing Barneys and the NYPD of racial profiling.

Four plainclothes cops accused a black woman of credit card fraud after the Brooklyn mom bought a $2,500 designer bag from Barneys — stoking a fresh round of outrage against the high-end store. Kayla Phillips, 21, a nursing student from Canarsie, told the Daily News she had long coveted the orange suede Céline bag. Armed with a cash infusion from a tax return, she took her Bank of America debit card and headed to the Madison Ave. flagship store on Feb. 28. Phillips made the purchase without incident but says she was surrounded by cops just three blocks away, at the Lexington Ave. and 59th St. subway station. “There were three men and a woman,” she recalled. “Two of them attacked me and pushed me against a wall, and the other two appeared in front of me, blocking the turnstile.” The cops started peppering her with questions and demanding to see her ID. “They were very rough,” said Phillips, who has filed a $5 million notice of claim with the city of her intention to sue the NYPD. “They kept asking me what I bought and saying, ‘Show us your card.’ I didn’t know what was happening.”

What's up with all these bloody american cops black guy buys something expensive Quick arrest that fucker it's obviously a fake card no way he could afford it!!
media attention focuses on negative stories more often than positive stories news is a business
australian trying to give a lesson on racism? really?
Are you actually serious?
And people wonder why Law Enforcement Officers get blown away everyday in this country.
This is so obviously racist. They're not even being subtle about it, goddamn. Not that being subtle is any better. I'm just saying they're not even trying to make it seem fair.
australian trying to give a lesson on racism? really?
I haven't read anything recently about Australian cops arresting Aboriginals for no reason
I haven't read anything recently about Australian cops arresting Aboriginals for no reason
Man have I got news for you... [editline]27th October 2013[/editline] Is Treme any good? I just got off of watching BrBa, need something new to sink my teeth into
I haven't read anything recently about Australian cops arresting Aboriginals for no reason
Nah, just telling them what they can and can't buy, that's not racist at all right?
To be fair, even his own name is profiling him.
australian trying to give a lesson on racism? really?
So you're basically telling him to be racist or else you won't take him seriously? I have no words.
So you're basically telling him to be racist or else you won't take him seriously? I have no words.
I think the better irony is he's being racist himself.
All he wants is to buy a watch and he has money to pay for it. Why would the storekeeper call the cops on him? I hope that shop goes bankrupt for this.
