Pakistan's president has denounced St Valentine's Day, saying the festival has no connection with Pakistani culture and should be avoided.
President Mamnoon Hussain told students that it was a Western tradition and conflicted with Muslim culture.
His remarks came after a district in north-western Pakistan banned Valentine's Day celebrations.

Sounds like someone doesn't have a date :v:
I remember them making this exact statement last year. And the year before that.
Condemned? The letter indicates that he's banned it.
How about this, we throw him a secret valentines gift from the entire planet so he won't be angry about it any more..
[ Just a theory.. ]

Surely there must be some Pakistani/Muslim equivalent to Valentine's Day or else this seems like the fun police intervening.
Renowned civil society activist Sabeen Mahmud once set up a demonstration with slogans including "Karachi says Yes to Love". (Last April, she was killed in a drive-by shooting...)
Valentines Day is serious business.
Well, he's right though. Valentine's day killed the 8th of March importance and traditions here, probably they have something similar.

If it 'killed' a tradition that is because people wanted it to. Nobody is being forced to recognise it. But forcing people not to? That's stupid. People should accept and embrace the fact that traditions and cultures change.
How dare you indicate that you might love another human being through giving them a card, flowers, chocolates or something similar.
Truly despicable. Haram to the extreme. Affection towards any human is disgusting, beep boop.
Valentine's day is horseshit. I say this while iwait for my girlfirend to wake up so i can give her some chocolates and some flowers that will probably be dead in a few days

I better get a blowjob
I defy you, heart man.
wait if it's banned does it mean that people will get arrested if they're seen celebrating it?
if not then what's the big deal
People should accept and embrace the fact that traditions and cultures change.
Why exactly should change be embraced?
Why did you take a word out of context and then question it?
As much as I hate valentines day, this is bullshite. Let people celebrate what they want - who are you to tell them otherwise?
conflicted with Muslim culture.
My point still stands.
It's same as with Europe and Muslims. Why should Islam be part of Europe, if it conflicts with European culture?
It's same as with Europe and Muslims. Why should Islam be part of Europe, if it conflicts with European culture?
If this was so true, then why is it that the Muslims that integrated into the US and Canada are, as a majority, totally compatible with Western culture? Or how about the Muslims that have lived in Europe years before the Refugee Crisis? Maybe you'd like to explain for me?
Perhaps the fault doesn't lie with Islam and Muslims, but instead the governments in the Middle East that catalyze radical and extreme policies such as this ban on Valentine's Day, in which citizens obviously do not agree, as seen here: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-pakistan-valentine-idUSBRE91D0I720130214
"I'm happy with Valentine's Day. The city if full of flowers and it looks nice," said 21-year-old student Faateh Khan, who was buying roses for his mother. "Those people are just a minority of extremists acting up for the media," he said of those making complaints.
But, what do I know? It's not like I'm a Muslim who has dealt with Muslims my entire life, none of whom ever exhibited radicalism or a support for asinine subjects like Sharia Law.
