• An MSE update "reverted" my settings.

So I was just chilling on my computer, when MSE popped up and said it needed to update, so I did, and restarted my computer. When I popped back in, all the fonts had changed, most of my desktop shortcurts were gone, the Windows 7 UI had changed slightly, Firefox had reverted its settings completely (All bookmarks and extensions were gone, for example), but all my files were still there and shit, so I'm not complaining. Did anyone else get this?
I've never seen a message stating MSE needed to update. Ever. Which I find odd that you did. Was it definitions or the program?
It was a client update package, according to Microsoft Update.
What's the KB number?
Kb2290031
Whoah, glad I didn't feel like updating when that message came up...
Kb2290031
No results on MS or Google :/
Whoah, glad I didn't feel like updating when that message came up...
It's not much of a big deal. You just gotta change the settings back to what it was and get used to the slightly different fonts and UI. All my files are still there. I just find it strange that an update for a security program cold make such changes, and I was wondering if it happened to anyone else.
Oh damn. Mine just popped up saying that so i told it to update Don't want to restart :|
Oh damn. Copy your e-mails. (I lost mine) And go through invidual program settings to see which ones you need to change back. You will not lose any of your files.
Most of my stuff is on my network HDD, bookmarks are covered by opera's sync thing and i use webmail. Im going to restart and see what happens its done updating now Edit: Shit all happened
Just updated (although I didn't see your KB or update) just definitions and what seems to be a SP1 prerequisite. Nothing's different, nothing missing, nothing wrong at all.
I got that same update this morning as well. I let it do its thing and grumbled when it required a restart, but nothing was different when it logged back in.
I've had this happen before without any application updating. Your user profile thinger is probably corrupt - check your windows error logs.
Dude, something gay has probably happened and now you're using the "TEMP" profile. Good luck fixing it.
Dude, something gay has probably happened and now you're using the "TEMP" profile. Good luck fixing it.
This is exactly what happened. Your profile must have become corrupt (probably your NTUser.dat which is all your registry settings) and Windows was unable to load it so it made you a new blank one. I doubt it was to do with the MSE upgrade, it's probably just coincidence. It's possible some other program was doing something in the registry and was interrupted by the MSE upgrade leaving it in an unstable state.
Well, I had this problem before and I had to screw around with some things in 'Registry Editor' to get my profile back. To get the registry editor, type in "Regedit" in the programs menu. This page helped me A LOT and I'm sure it will help you: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/135858-user-profile-error-logged-temporary-profile.html Oh, sorry, you're using windows 7, I hope my suggestion helps in some way though.
Thanks for the helpful replies, but in fact, everything went back to normal after a second restart.
