People now have to pay to read The Sun newspaper online.
The online version is called Sun+ and costs subscribers £2 per week. The daily print tabloid costs £3.20 a week.
Rupert Murdoch's News UK, which owns The Sun, announced the paywall in March, saying free online access had become "untenable".
The Sun has a circulation of 2.3 million in print, while about 1.7 million people visit its website each day.
The Times, also owned by News UK, introduced its paywall three years ago. It requires a paid subscription before any stories can be viewed.
In March, the Daily Telegraph introduced a so-called metered paywall.
Sun+ will try to attract subscribers with offers such as video of all Premier League goals.

And here just went anybody who ever read The Sun's website.

old people
Oh no what a tragedy, I am totally upset for real right now and this isn't sarcastic.

But where am I going to get my informative and unbiased news from now?
this is a good thing since it should mean less receptacles for their bullshit
i doubt the readers of the sun could afford the subscription fee anyway

You just sound like a prick.
Better people than you read the sun.
i doubt the readers of the sun could afford the subscription fee anyway
Sure I read that they are going to print free access codes in the sun so they don't need to subscribe.
B-but it comes with 3 months of Napster for free! That's a 20 pound value!
The sun is literally the worst paper in the Universe.

Facepunch.
Daily Mail.
At least The Sun has courtesy to give you tits while draining your intelligence.
Talking about The Sun, this was apparently their front cover last wednesday:

One upside to this is I won't see people sourcing the Sun anymore or linking it. I hope.

Well stars generally aren't good paper, they tend to burn up.

Quality (something The Sun doesn't have). I'd gladly pay a few bucks a month for the BBC's online news service.
I actually think that 2 pounds certainly are a fair price if you read their website regularily but don't want to fuss around with an actualy physical newspaper.

Yes, it is real, and even worse in print than on that image.

Yeah, the price is decent, especially compared to the real newspaper. Some magazines (Especially on the iMagazine store or whatever you want to call it) digital versions cost the same price as the paper version. I know which one I'd choose. Outrageous.

I think the BBC still has that TV tax benefiting them.
Something tells me they aren't going to charge for access for a while.

Jesus christ I have been there.
It was a magical time, full of strange plants.

Obligatory remark about how its not a tax!1 etc
But it isn't beyond the realms of possibility, the BBC has a money making arm (BBC Worldwide) that likes to make money whenever it can.
Haha good job The Sun, now everyone is going to flock to free alternatives.
Perhaps less people will read this utter shitrag now, which is no bad thing.
