Today, Sprint announced a new phone plan called "All-In": $80 a month (plus tax and surcharges) gets you unlimited talk, text, and high-speed data[FOOTNOTE GOES HERE]. As you can probably see in the title of this post, this new new plan is terrible, dumb, and you shouldn't support it, because it's complete bullshit that Sprint is even allowed to do this. In fact, it's not clear they're allowed to do it at all. (I honestly don't know how this doesn't run afoul of the FCC's new rules - Sprint will call it network management, but I call it discriminatory throttling of the most obvious kind.)
Here's how it works. $60 a month buys you into Sprint's new All-In unlimited plan. $20 more a month gets you a leased phone (as in, a phone you have to give back in 24 months). So, for $80 (plus taxes!) a month, you get unlimited talk, text, and high speed data.
Except you don't, because Sprint is full of shit.
In the fine print of Sprint's new unlimited plans is one hell of a footnote:
To improve data experience for the majority of users, throughput may be limited, varied or reduced on the network. Streaming video speeds will be limited to 600Kbps at all times, which may impact quality. [emphasis ours]

the fuck is the point of having the plan then
the fuck is the point of having the plan then
Because consumers can be idiots who buy into this shit.
Unlimited data is always a lie
guys its unlimited because you can use as much as you want, you should have read the contract to see what the speeds are :downs:
/s
it disgusts me that this plan exists, and even more so that there are people that actually defend its existence because "its in the contract you should have known better"
Because consumers can be idiots who buy into this shit.
Or have no other choice.
Maybe you need a lot of data for other purposes than video streaming. Maybe there are other disadvantages for you for not choosing Sprint. And nobody wants to boycott mobile data in general.
Remember, the mobile market is the way it is because consumers would rather settle for a shitty plan instead of no plan, the carriers are mostly equally capable and all realise that if one of them started offering something significantly better, the other carriers would soon follow suit and every carrier just ends up losing.
and within 12 hours
it's been removed

because god forbid the customer isnt being screwed at all times.
Well I never. Looks like Sprint is about to prove me wrong.

I didn't say I liked it, or that you shouldn't be upset.

i was not at all trying to say that you liked it, i apologize if it came off that way. just commenting my feelings how carriers treat customers
Sprint is basically garbage regardless. T-Mobile does something similar for $30. I honestly don't know anyone who has a Sprint account.
google fi is the hero we need
Download the movie then watch it. No streaming = no speed caps :v:
75 KB/s is fine for mobile internet stuff like social media and casual games but fuck that noise for video streaming. Glad they're (hopefully) redacting that speed cap and hopefully they don't replace it with anything just as bad.
this is why I love t-mobile. no overages, truly unlimited data, and i get 50mbps speeds at $100 a month for unlimited everything for TWO lines
Its not 'unlimited data' if you limit the fucking data.
How is this even legal, i feel bad for you americans.

Are there truly unmetered mobile data plans in Finland?

I switched to Tmobile from sprint and haven't looked back. Speeds are more than double too.

In the UK we have 'all you can eat' data for £15 a month:

It also includes 25GB in a big list of countries in case you go on holiday, the US being one of them. Which doesn't make much sense since 25GB in the US would set you back like $80.
Unlimited data is always a lie
I actually have fully unlimited data, and stated as such in my contract.
It was signed before the notion of limitations started to come up.
You can't get a phone plan without any limits today. I'm also paying out of my ass for it.

Yeah, i have one.
20€/month for unlimited 4G, no data roof and no speed limit. Only problem with it is that the 4G doesnt work too well in my apartment, but it does work really fast in some places.

If I wanted just a data plan what stops me from getting that and just roaming all the time? 25GB is more than enough.

Well congratulations, because in most parts of the world you're not gonna get anything close to unmetered, not even the absolute most expensive plans running you over 100€/month, yet they're still labeled unlimited, with the dialup speed throttle cap named something like "high-speed volume".
On a completely unrelated note, why are almost all prices in the US quoted without the tax? Is there a logical reason (different taxes at different states etc... so can't quote a single number) or is it just a way for the companies to make the price seem even lower?

I'm pretty sure it's a little bit of both.
I know that kinda pissed me off when I got my first T-Mobile bill and it was almost 100 bucks instead of 80.
I've looked at data plans in the US and they are truly fucked
I feel glad that that I pay £30 a month for unlimited 3G, unlimited texts and 200 minutes, as well as my Moto X, on T-Mobile
I guess it's good that the 600kbps is gone, but it'll probably just be raised

The only things sold with tax included are fuel and tobacco really, probably to make things seem cheaper

Three has a 3-month limit on that roaming thing, and only increases it under special request. You'd also need a UK billing address.

At 21gb you get put into QoS actually, but it's really not a problem.
