The plan is to optimize what i have, not to buy all new parts (at all). My planned OS Dual boot setup: (using Easy BCD v2.1.2) Windows 7 (x64) - General Use ( my current installation ) Windows 7 (x64) - Gaming ( a planned installation , optimized os with just the bare essentials for gaming ) My other Specs: Nivida Configuration: Let 3D Application Decide Power Plan: Power Saver RATEING: ( prior 5.8 ) Processor: 5.8 Memory (RAM) 5.8 Graphics: 6.7 Gaming graphics: 6.7 Primary hard disk: 5.9 RATEING: ( current 5.8 ) [after some cleanup / optimizations I've been doing lately] Processor: 5.9 Memory (RAM) 5.9 Graphics: 6.7 Gaming graphics: 6.7 Primary hard disk: 5.9 PROCCESSOR: Intel® Core™2 CPU 6600@ 2.60GHz 2.60GHz RAM: ( 4gb ) GPU: GeForce GT 440 - was sold as a 430 didn't have documents to return. Also work s fine for the most part. If you know of a good way to test my gpu for damage please explain below. My current Hard Drives: P:\ ( 6gb partition of C:\ ) used for page file. ( only actually uses 919mb for pagefile , system managed ) C:\ ( ST3250310NS : 250.0 GB [0/1/0, pd1] ) Model : ST3250310NS Firmware : SN04 Serial Number : 9SF0600X Disk Size : 250.0 GB (8.4/137.4/250.0) Buffer Size : Unknown Queue Depth : 32 # of Sectors : 488397168 Rotation Rate : Unknown Interface : Serial ATA Major Version : ATA/ATAPI-6 Minor Version : ATA/ATAPI-6 T13 1410D version 2 Transfer Mode : SATA/300 Power On Hours : 11691 hours Power On Count : 822 count Health Status : Good Features : S.M.A.R.T., 48bit LBA, NCQ APM Level : ---- AAM Level : ---- D:\ ( SAMSUNG HD203WI : 2000.3 GB [ 2tb ] [1/2/0, pd1] ) Model : SAMSUNG HD203WI Firmware : 1AN10002 Serial Number : S1UYJ1CZ403015 Disk Size : 2000.3 GB (8.4/137.4/2000.3) Buffer Size : 32767 KB Queue Depth : 32 # of Sectors : 3907029168 Rotation Rate : 5400 RPM Interface : Serial ATA Major Version : ATA8-ACS Minor Version : ATA8-ACS version 6 Transfer Mode : SATA/300 Power On Hours : 9635 hours Power On Count : 1110 count Health Status : Good Features : S.M.A.R.T., APM, AAM, 48bit LBA, NCQ APM Level : 0000h [OFF] AAM Level : FE00h [OFF] Some of my plans: * Split C:\ into another 64gb partition for a separate windows install (T:\) * Split D:\ into another 250gb drive for installing programs to keep C:\ and T:\ clear & clean * perhaps install (or run) my security / optimization programs on both windows installs. * I intend to install my games in T:\ but point them to the same dir as C:\ Some side notes: * D:\ is used to store pictures / videos and other files of such nature, and is linked to my network. * My computer typically idles to 0 to 1 percent cpu when not running anything. * My GPU might be damaged, If you have any way to test this please post below \/ Some Questions: * Should i go ahead and install the second Windows 7 as planned or should i do something else ? * Do you think my drives [C:\ D:\] can handled beings split ( shrink + new partition ) 1 time each * Should i just try to clear some junk off C:\ and not use D:\ for installations because of the data i keep on it ? If you know of any other (more computer related sites) please link make there so i can post the above there as well.
Get 8Gb Ram, Get a Quad Phenom or something similiar.
Get 8Gb Ram, Get a Quad Phenom or something similiar.
"The plan is to optimize what i have, not to buy all new parts (at all)." quoting the first line of my topic ... Thanks for the input but if i where able i'd do that. My motherboard only supports 4gb. And i dont want to spend more then 0$ let alone a couple hundred.
Your GPU is pretty crappy tho, I would get a new one.
Well in what way do you wish to optimize it? Faster gaming? Faster web browsing? Etc [editline]8th June 2012[/editline] Also what software did you use to get this information?
Gaming, If you read above /\ you can see that i plan to install a second copy of Windows 7 on a different partition of C:\ for gaming alone. for the disks Crystal Disk Info, the CPU and stats Control Panel > System Now I'm simply asking ( or at least mostly ) if i should do what i said i plan to do above. Or if there are other means of optimization that i should pursue. Though its probably one of my bigger goals to have 2 os's installed as i do lots of development from programs to modelling. But it dosent seem to have much of an impact cpu / ram wise as my processor idles at about 0 to 1 %. So once again my questions here are mostly. Should i use dual boot windows 7 so that i can devote one of them to all performance and gaming and another ( my current ) which isnt necessarily performance oriented but id rater keep it the way it is now.
Having 2 Operating systems won't affect performance, Just Disk Space, And sometimes Corruption to files. Yes that should work, I don't think you'll see much improvement performance wise.
File corruption you say ? How frequent and severe do you think it would be ?
File corruption you say ? How frequent and severe do you think it would be ?
With multiple Operating Systems, Not very frequent. But honestly you wouldn't notice much difference in the performance of your System.

I have no idea what those point things are, but if they're the Windows Experience point craps, don't even bother bloody looking at them, they're useless. If you want to actually benchmark your rig, run 3DMark.
