The driver had invented a 'number plate controlling system' which - at the press of a button rotated the plate to face the ground. Whenever he saw a speeding check point, he would hit the button to hide his number plate, reports the Chutian Metropolis News. Police officer Wu Kan told how he was on patrol in Hanyang, central China's Hubei Province, when he saw the lorry pass at speed. He couldn't see the number plate so radioed ahead to colleagues to pull over the lorry at the next traffic junction. The driver, Gong, admitted that he had invested the equivalent of hundreds of pounds in his invention which was confiscated by police. Fining his £20, officer Wu commented: "It was really a clever idea, but he put his smartness in the wrong place."
Source: http://web.orange.co.uk/article/quirkies/Truckers_number_plate_ruse_backfires
No Mr. Kwon. I expect you to die.
...so how did it backfire? This is a vague news post :colbert: Wait he sped past a cop? what a fucking idiot.
That's pure GENIUS!
Why didn't they do this on that episode of Mythbusters? I don't know if it would be busted though because the guy got caught.
Fining his £20, officer Wu commented: "It was really a clever idea, but he put his smartness in the wrong place."
There's more than one thing that sounds incredibly strange in this.
Why didn't they do this on that episode of Mythbusters? I don't know if it would be busted though because the guy got caught.
Jamie did at the very end of the episode.
That's a pretty cool idea, there is so many faults with the speeding system. Everybody with angry avatars is posting in this thread :frown:
Funny to find something like that on a lorrie.
Why didn't they do this on that episode of Mythbusters? I don't know if it would be busted though because the guy got caught.
The mythbusters episode already had something incredibly similar with the changing plates, which would be highly more effective than this.
Just like in the movies.
No Mr. Kwon. I expect you to die.
this is an example of a terrible post
I've thought of this before but my system would involve a number plate that would turn 180° so you'd see another (fake) number plate for a moment.
Do you guys remember that episode of Mythbusters when they were trying to beat the speed-gun by going really fast, and at the end, they made a car that switches the license plate around?
My system would make the number plate effectively be an LCD screen like one found in a calculator which would make the area around the lettering turn the same colour as the lettering as you pass a camera.
£20 fine? That's it? For a machine that hides your license plate? In the states you would get way more than that
£20 fine? That's it? For a machine that hides your license plate? In the states you would get way more than that
I think they gave him some pity on it, much like that guy who had hundreds in speeding fines when he wore a gorilla mask.
I've had an idea like this before.
Reminded me of the movie The Transporter.
I guess the bus driver was a real ruser.
Seen this idea somewhere before. Very clever when it works.
This is one of the rare times when I read a thread title and am satisfied with the result of the thread.
