• Pa. man fined for 'dirty' words on state truck

A western Pennsylvania man has been fined $50 for using his finger to write derogatory words on the dirty cab of a Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission truck. Charles J. Vranich, 33, of South Pymatuning Township, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct last week on a citation filed by Fish Commission Officer Jeffrey Giardina. Vranich wrote the words on the officer's truck when both happened to be at the same gas station in September. Vranich wasn't immediately available for comment, but his father, Charles Sr., said Monday his son wrote "I suck" on Giardina's truck because his son was upset that the officer made him take an alcohol breath test - which Vranich passed - after boating weeks before. So, they're not allowed to have fun? That does suck.
"I suck"? Woah woah that's just taking it too far. Dude needs to chill before he hurts someone.
It's only $50
I'm surprised he didn't attempt the freedom of speech card, I would have.
It's only $50
That's hard to come by these days.
I'm surprised he didn't attempt the freedom of speech card, I would have.
Countered with Vandalism offense.
Countered with Vandalism offense.
He didn't get charged with vandalisim however, he was charged with disorderly conduct. It wouldn't be vandalism anyway because it didn't cause any physical damage to the property.

Had he played the free speech card they would have pressed charges for vandalism.
So I guess all the new Nicorette ads are full of dirty language?
spraypaint doesn't cause physical damage to property, only unsightly aesthetic damage. Had he played the free speech card they would have pressed charges for vandalism.
Spraypaint does cause physical damage because of it's potential to bond with the surface it is used upon. That and because to remove it you either need to use industrial chemical removers which could potentially damage the property or it must be painted over. All of this is labor intensive, hence why it is a damage to property. Dust/dirt however can just be wiped off, hence why it wouldn't be vandalism since no physical damage is done nor is there need for extensive labor. Maybe some dumbass DA might push for vandalism, but if the guy knew anything about the law he'd be able to get out of it no problem. Edit: Upon retrospect I can see how the disorderly conduct charge passed, though the fact that they pressed charges is just stupid.
Main Entry: van·dal·ism Pronunciation: \ˈvan-də-ˌli-zəm\ Function: noun Date: 1798 : willful or malicious destruction or defacement of public or private property

I can feel George Carlin rolling in his grave.
By definition that's true but what the law defines as vandalism is what matters, and that varies state to state.
No. Defacement is a universal form of vandalism in all states. That's what vandalism IS. That is the definition. That's like saying the definition of murder varies state by state. It doesn't. In every state in which vandalism is illegal (i.e. all of them,) defacement of public and state property is an established form of it.
Oh come on, it's $50 for messing with a state-owned truck, it's not like the Gestapo threw him in Gitmo for using his freedom of speech.

It probably is technically vandalism, but only an idiot would consider this worth prosecuting. If the 'vandalism' can be wiped away in 2 seconds with no further problems it's not worth prosecuting imo.
This is newsworthy
This is newsworthy
Well it's ridiculous, so therefore newsworthy.
I love us Pennsylvanians.
He gets fined $50 while I while i get 50 hours of community service for writing "nigger" with ice cream on some black guys car. Unfair.
Instantly thought of this:
"I suck"? Woah woah that's just taking it too far. Dude needs to chill before he hurts someone.
It's a slippery slope. What's next? 'clean me'? :psyduck:

I don't think i ever saw you in a thread where you WEREN'T arguing. Besides, if anything, he did the opposite of vandalism. He wiped dirt off in a fashion to resemble words. Technically he actually cleaned it. Not deface it.
