Hey guys.
So I just got a Nissan Sentra 05, When the bass or volume is at its max, it sounds terrible and I want to upgrade the speakers to make it sound better quality and higher. I want to upgrade the speakers first, then buy a new stereo. Can anyone suggest something? I'm terrible at picking things like this.
Gracias
From what I've heard (I'm no car audio expert), you want to buy the headunit first, then the speakers. Usually the sound quality is far better on the new headunits. Also you have better equalizer and post processing options than most factory units. From what I've seen (or rather heard), it does make a difference. My dad's 85 Buick Century with the ORIGINAL speakers can actually sound pretty damn good with nothing more than an $100 Pioneer headunit. I know, I know, "anecdotal" evidence, but that's how I feel about that.

Speakers being speakers, stereo being headunit.

I haven't really bought speakers for any vehicles (other than my bandpass and $20 stereo speaker system) but look around newegg and try and find a good balance between good reviews, eggs, and price; I found some pretty damn good deals on speakers that seemed really nice quality, but said deals ran out before i could get my hands on them.

As for headunits, they are all going to pretty much be the same in terms of power; The amp takes care of that. What you're looking for here is options (Ipod docking? Aux input? Equalizer?), ease of use, price, quality, SIZE, etc.
I myself have just used a baseline JVC with Aux input and it serves all my needs perfectly and still bumps even without an amp
(But again, they all pretty much have the same wattage, amps take care of that)
My current headunit is the older version of this, mine doesn't have an EQ, only has one Aux input, and looks way different, but again that's some of the only differences between different headunits anyways.

I replaced the stereo in my Cherokee (the previous one wasn't original anyway) and the front two speakers are factory and the back 2 are pioneer but they're from like 2001 and possibly blown. But when I replaced the stereo it sounded leagues better.
I agree, aftermarket headunits are tons better than stock, but generally, in my experience, all aftermarket headunits are probably going to sound (basically) the same; The amp and speakers are usually what take an ordinary sound system into something you can hear from a mile away, which you don't really need anyways...
I'd say go for a headunit if I'm honest. Probably cheaper than a good set of speakers anyways. Now that i think about it, it really did improve the quality of my audio as well, like Nuclear said.
I was looking at these.

How do I know if its compatible with my vehicle? or do all stereos use the same cables etc?
And do you think its difficult to install the head unit? Is 50 watt speakers better than stock?
Thanks guys :D

Thanks guys :D
For the most part, they are all standard. However, whatever wiring harness it needs to connect to the car, depends on what make/model of car you have. You might also need a mounting bracket (I'm pretty sure that's what they are called) and faceplate, once again, specific to your make/model of car, due to the physical design of the dashboard. If you buy it in a kit, they should have the wiring harness adapter and faceplate and all that in one package.
if your gonna buy a headunit online go to www.crutchfield.com might be a little more expensive but it will come with LITERALLY everything you need to install a headunit in your vehicle of choice
as for speakers/amps i'm a fan of www.audiosavings.com usually cheaper than most online places as far as speakers and amps go
You're NOT going to see a big increase in bass or clarity at high volumes by swapping speakers/ deck. Perhaps a little..
More bass requires more power... amped speakers, or a small woofer then cut most of the bass to the speakers will do what you're looking for.
Otherwise if you don't want to do that, this year's Alpine Type-S speakers are about the bassiest you'll find running on just deck power (20 watts from an aftermarket.)
