The game hasn't even come out yet and the developers are already making DLC?
I think the dev's response missed the point.

The game is finished; it went gold last week. What else are they supposed to do?

Well, I don't know, they want to support the "esport" scene and then just give everyone different advantages? Doesn't seem like very fair to me.
It's like if CS:GO would release a DLC gun pack, and only DLC player could use it.

Very simple solution: the guns'd be banned in comp play. The TF2 comp scene already does this.
Any different than a preorder bonus?
This so much. Everyone makes DLC before release in one way or another, this is nothing new.
The game hasn't even come out yet and the developers are already making DLC?
You'd be hard pressed to find a single major game nowadays that doesn't start DLC development after the game goes gold.
Worthless scum.

I don't remember TF2 being praised in the e-sport scene.
Compare that to Evolve, who's been raging on e-sports since they started hyping the game up.

Fix bugs for a day 1 patch.
map and art guys dont fix bugs
They do if there are map and art bugs.
find me a bug in a texture, and yeah there can be issues with levels but they aren't exactly the hardest things to fix
Misaligned UVs, corrupted bake, fucked up animations (which admittedly could be a coder's fault).
find me a bug in a texture,
clearly you've never seen tf2's art. fucking bugs and inconsistencies everywhere.
If the DLC isn't on disc then how come the Wraith, a DLC monster, is featured in one of he co-op missions.
The game is finished; it went gold last week. What else are they supposed to do?
What does going gold even mean any more in the age of digital distribution and day-one patches?
If the DLC isn't on disc then how come the Wraith, a DLC monster, is featured in one of he co-op missions.
Um, Wraith is not a DLC monster. I don't know where you heard that.
If the DLC isn't on disc then how come the Wraith, a DLC monster, is featured in one of he co-op missions.
Wraith is a preorder bonus afaik.
Wraith is a preorder bonus afaik.
I dont think so.
Wraith will be available for everyone
Let’s take a look at what you get.
In the Game, on day one:
Just so that it’s all in one place, this is what comes with the game on February 10th:
12 Unique Maps – each with a variety of modifiers that can drastically affect each match
12 Hunters (Abe, Bucket, Cabot, Caira, Griffin, Hank, Hyde, Lazarus, Maggie, Markov, Parnell and Val)
3 Monsters (Goliath, Kraken and Wraith)
Read through the page, it says what you get on day 1 and what's going to be DLC
[editline]18th January 2015[/editline]
You'll still have to unlock Wraith (and Kraken for that matter) through the leveling system
Wraith is a preorder bonus afaik.
Behemoth is the preorder bonus
I think the dev's response missed the point.
No, the dev's response is completely on point, he's simply too polite to point out that the publisher, not the dev, controls the price and the absurd dlc and the equally absurd marketing that go with it.
You want to bitch at someone actually responsible here you go:

But a lot of games that have unlockable weapons rely on the variation that brings for interesting gameplay, TF2 for example would bore me if everyone has default with no cool combos. Like the airblast reserve shooter or sandman cleaver.
I played the open beta on Xbox one and I was pretty disappointed.
Not buying this :p
When a company tries to push e-sports itself so hard like this it always fucking fails(as in trying to be a main selling point). E-Sports only exist because of the players, and players are the ones who will decide if its worthwhile enough to be competitive, its always been that way and always will.
Theirs reasons why a game like CS has been probably the most competitive FPS behind Quake where as DoD never caught competitively on BUT was still very popular and loved. Because players realized how skillful, fun, and strategic something like CS was as a competitive game over others.
Nothing about Evolve shows any evidence of being a good e-sport to both watch AND play. Ive played both betas so far and its a pretty good game, but its not an e-sport game in anyway at all.
Evolve seems like an absolutely garbage e-sport and honestly just seems like some REALLY bad marketing attempt by some fucking idiot who thinks if you call something an e-sport enough you will pull in numbers like TI/WCS/Leagues grand tourney.
generally, these issues won't plague a game when it has gone gold
Depends if the dev forked out for a large team of asset creators due to tight deadline.
The game hasn't even come out yet and the developers are already making DLC?
Just seen a Jimquisition on it. He says the game will probably be half decent, but the devs are using the game as a money sponge. They offers DLC in February 2014 as a pre-purchase reward before any screenshots had been released.
I think the fact you need a guide to tell you exactly what you get when buying the game, and what is set aside for DLC is REALLY fucking appalling.
For fucks sake, this almost makes watch dogs insane retailer DLC spreadsheet look tame.
It also fucking costs $70 here and it is a multiplayer only game with little base content before any downloadable content. They are kidding themselves with that crap

There is a soloplay mode and even offline mode, so I don't know where you got the multiplayer only from.
And while I agree with the expensive price tag, all future maps will be free of charge which is at least something I guess, they could've included new maps in a priced bundle too.
50€ for PC here which is standard. I don't know why people assume new games will release under 30€, especially big games like Evolve. Save yourself 2 trips to McDonalds and stop complaining
