Alright I've got two sources, the original Chinese, and the one I found it on.
July 28, 2014, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, a mall for promotional purposes, so that the clerk was wearing "the Eighth Route Army" clothing, holding machetes, guns and other props, in a mall staged a "play devil Eighth Route Army, the anti-Japanese guerrillas." other images, pocketed the consumer's eye. According to mall executives introduced, since the "77" anniversary, shopping on the continuation of this "anti-Japanese battle" themed promotional method that allows customers remember history. And then
According to the manager, the mall started this “anti-Japanese themed” promotion during the anniversary of the Japanese invasion of China on July 7th, to allow customers to reminisce/sell clothes. Because apparently not even sensitive chapters of history are off-limits when it comes to facilitating consumer spending. Not to mention that it makes about as much sense as Wal-Mart reenacting Omaha Beach in the furniture aisle to spur sales of bean bag chairs.
This is an interesting sales tactic.
"We're slashing all the prices in half, that's right in HALF just like those dirty Japs!'
Deals to die for

25% off if you're Japanese!
I also like how happy they look doing fake executions. Warms my heart.
I imagine the official part of it was just the uniforms and stuff and the employees decided to kick it up an notch and stage some classy beheadings.
All good and fun until the Japanese fight back and retake Manchuria.
wait a second. i just realized they are terrible reenactors. They aren't fat old men wearing confederate uniforms.
and they're wearing sneakers.
Prices so low, you'd lose your head!

for some reason the russians own half of that place
Under our co-prosperity sphere, you'll save!
Isn't this encouraging xenophobia and nationalism?
Japan should declare war on China for this outrage.
Japanese and Chinese ww2 uniforms look lame

I think its because those are cheap Chinese knockoffs.
It's basically the same as if some American company used killing Nazis to promote sales. It doesn't sound unheard of really.

pretty much the people's party's official stance on the matter of dealing with their neighbors, talk about how they are shit and their lands are shit except for the bits china "owned" at one point in history, get people to jokingly hate the japanese then get them to literally hate the japanese

Eh? It's not really that simple with Japan. It may however apply on countries like Vietnam or the Philippines. I don't think China has had any super big historical beefs with them, but their media keeps trash talking them.

china's definitely had some historical beef with japan. most recent altercations being just before and during WWII see: nanking massacre
since china is the closest landmass to japan, it makes sense that it would be the first place invaded in search of land to conquer and annex.
even if japan is currently an incredibly peace loving country right now, it doesn't stop a lot of the older generation of chinese people hating the japs and constantly being paranoid that they're going to reinvade china.
there's a lot of paranoia and misinformation handed around in china.
This would be even better if it were in Korea.

I was talking about Vietnam and Philippines.
where's the bad reading rating when you need it then?

It's China, they're already nationalists and loathing of both Japanese and neighboring countries that aren't allied with them.

Except America and Germany are now on very good terms, whereas there are still some very serious raw nerves between China and Japan. This is hardly helping matters.

I can see it now "FOREVER 21 STORES REENACT OPERATION MARKET GARDEN TO DRUM UP SALES".
The saddest part of all this is if you look back and read the history of the Nanking Massacre and all the other war crimes of the Japanese of that time, it can pretty much be allocated to a few of the Princes and less than a handful of Generals. I mean Iwane Matsui was a general who after the incident was recorded saying "I now realize that we have unknowingly wrought a most grievous effect on this city. When I think of the feelings and sentiments of many of my Chinese friends who have fled from Nanking and of the future of the two countries, I cannot but feel depressed. I am very lonely and can never get in a mood to rejoice about this victory.". He also said a few weeks later to a Japanese Diplomat "My men have done something very wrong and extremely regrettable.". He was among those executed for the war crimes, but none of the Princes were.
Emperor Hirohito didn't even really want to invade China, as he was afraid of going to war with the Soviet Union and worried about how long it would take, but his cabinet convinced him. He also was disgusted with a lot of the things the Japanese Army were doing in China. He wasn't completely free of blame though, he did authorize the use of gas to execute Chinese prisoners.
One of the most enjoyable things I discovered while traveling in China, was the casual racism people displayed to others and even themselves. Not saying I believe it's alright to be seriously racist, but we had a guide in our group to kept asking if we wanted to eat dog.
Then you see a restaurant with a Geisha girl drawing crossed out on the front door and go, "oooooh..."

ww2 japan and china were lame

Modern Japan and China are lamer.

China lost 14 Million people 1937-1939 to Japan, it's amazing the west totally skips that and says World War 2 began with Germany/Poland circa 1939.
If China hadn't fought them off you'd be fucked America, no one makes Hollywood films about that unfortunately. Makes sense why, outside of trade their foreign policies isolate themselves a bit.
