The new law, which takes effect on Oct. 20, makes Philadelphia the largest U.S. city to decriminalize the DEA-categorized Schedule 1 drug amid a growing number of U.S. cities and states that have reduced or eliminated penalties for recreational users. The statute calls for a $25 fine for anyone caught with less than an ounce of pot. However, public consumption will result in a $100 fine or up to nine hours of community service. The drug will also be confiscated. ... Kenney had argued that arrests for pot possession unfairly targeted blacks. Of the 4,614 arrests Philadelphia police made for small amounts of marijuana in 2013, 83 percent targeted African-Americans, according to local media, even though studies show the number of black and white Americans who consume pot is roughly the same.
http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/10/2/philly-relaxes-penaltiesformarijuanapossession.html Although...
You can still be arrested for selling or distributing marijuana, more than 30 grams, DUI, or not giving correct ID to @PhillyPolice — City of Philadelphia (@PhiladelphiaGov) October 1, 2014
Good on them on being reasonable.
Good on them on being reasonable.
Reasonable is total legalization, at least in my eyes :v:.
In west Philadelphia born and raised On the playground was where I spent most of my days Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool And all smokin some dank outside of the school
I didnt know there were places where they arrested people for small amounts if marijuana.... We just ticket and release. Not worth their, or my, time arresting them for some petty shit. Things change if you have a brick of it in your backpack
i'm glad they dropped that tweet for all the philly tokers to get the lowdown on the fly
It's a start. I wonder if they'll decriminalize it completely at some point though.
also wow 83% is fucking insane edit: i meant that it was insane that such blatant discrimination exists, whitey obviously tokes just as much
Reasonable is total legalization, at least in my eyes :v:.
Baby steps.

Santa Fe recently did the same thing, though I personally find it odd that they still fine you for possessing a small amount. But with any luck it's their way of testing the waters in terms of full legalization.
Reasonable is total legalization, at least in my eyes :v:.
I don't think you can reasonably go from criminalisation to 'sell a car-sized brick of it out of your truck' in one day. With things like this where decriminalisation is so polarising and has the potential to have a huge impact on crime levels (etc) it's better to take it slow and gradually make smaller changes so that the community can adjust.
oh man my city I know what I'm doing when I get back from school.
jk i dont do drugs im a nerd
Oh, Good Job Philly. I know what I'm looking for when I get back home.
It's a start. At least that will build some sort of infrastructure to it. I'm quite happy though this passed. It's funny because our mayor was so ardently against this and it passed with resounding success and Mayor Nutter wasn't happy one bit.
"The Gang Gets Baked"
A step towards a better system, but the system's still broken and needs a fixing.
And then the number of Philly Cheesesteaks sold annually state-wide skyrockets. I got jus' one little fine and ma mom got scared! She said "Don' hog that bud Will, split some with your ol' momma!" "Imma make us some good ol' fashioned brownies, mmmkay?" (that would actually be kinda cool, if the family got high and Mom brought out some homemade baked goods for tea)
Reasonable is total legalization, at least in my eyes :v:.
? You're not allowed to operate heavy machinery or drive while under the influence of certain drugs. What makes Marijuana any different?
? You're not allowed to operate heavy machinery or drive while under the influence of certain drugs. What makes Marijuana any different?
Do you know the definition of decriminalization and legalization?
Hurray for degeneracy
? You're not allowed to operate heavy machinery or drive while under the influence of certain drugs. What makes Marijuana any different?
People don't actually have that in mind when they say "total legalization"
Hurray for degeneracy
Why do you shitpost everywhere, say why you actually think marijuana legalization will harm us without knee-jerk reacting.
Hurray for degeneracy
Yeah, because locking someone up because they did something to their own bodies isn't degenerating.
Hurray for degeneracy
I smoke after work to relieve stress and never get behind the wheel after doing so. Literally scum.
The statute calls for a $25 fine for anyone caught with less than an ounce of pot
Well you heard them, carry at least an ounce of pot on you at all times unless you want to be fined $25 Who ever wrote this probably should have read that over a second time
Well you heard them, carry at least an ounce of pot on you at all times unless you want to be fined $25 Who ever wrote this probably should have read that over a second time
I'm sure the law itself is more specifically worded than that.
I could give less fucks if people want to destroy their lives by consuming a gateway drug (and yes it is a gateway drug, there are fucking heroin needles on the streets of Washington since they legalized it.) And sure some people are responsible and have some sense of restraint. However, this isn't doing anything for the average folk, who has very little sense of personal accountability or obligation to further himself. The problem is that we are specifically allowing it now. We've removed the barrier of morality and now we will see it's effects.
pretty sure the average person has tons of sense of personal accountability and obligation to further themselves, that's why most people have jobs & no criminal record & shit like that
pretty sure the average person has tons of sense of personal accountability and obligation to further themselves, that's why most people have jobs & no criminal record & shit like that
Personal accountability is evaporating. People blame their problems on the trivial medication they didn't take, even though they function identically without it, or on the school system that failed them, when really they needed to be learning on their own. Not to mention people who live entirely off government benefits, and then cry oppression when they get taken away.
also the average person has smoked weed at least once and yet isn't doing heroin
citation fucking needed. The average person? Really you think that's true?
