Through browsing a lot of strobe kit setups, I've come to notice one brand stand out in particular... ALIENBEES God, they look so fucking awesome compared to your average black, hard-plastic strobe by other manufacturers. These things have an AWESOME name and character and come in 6 different colours: Not only that, but they cost a shit-ton less than other strobes. You can put together a decent mobile, single-strobe 800w softbox setup with about $1000 according to my calculations which is about half the price of anywhere else. Unfortunately, UK supply hasn't really kicked in which is a massive kick in the nuts for me. When I first saw these bad boys I thought 'Damn I've gotta have me some of these' and I've been searching for a way of getting hold of some for some time. The conversion is so shitty right now: In the US you can grab an AB800 (nice) for 279 USD, which converts to a very reasonable £171 GBP. The UK, you get exactly the same AB800 for £288GBP. What the FUCK. They just took the dollar sign, changed it to a pound and added £10 for shits and giggles. I'm erring on whether it's still worthwhile going with alienbees after all, or looking into an alternative from a boring brand who do the whole hard black-plastic 'pro' feel strobes but are much more available to the market. I just wish they'd start importing them properly really. AlienBees are used by such cool bro's as Brian Storey who just consistently whips amazingly well taken pictures of models out of the bag.
they have sweet modifiers too

Aside that, those really look different from everything I've seen. Obviously I can't get them where I live, that's a norm, but if they're technically okay, I'd go for it right away.
I use the B800, it's spiffy as hell. My only gripe with the company is that they put their 'Abducted by Alienbees' logo on top of the bag, which looks unprofessional and just plain retarded
Oh my that is a lot of gear. How often do you find yourself using all of that at once?
that is not my gear, I only have one flash as of now. Just felt too lazy to go take a picture v:v:v I intend on getting a vagabond and radio triggers before more flashes, at least.
What's a Vagabond? I've seen photo bags of that brand but nothing else. I'm hunting triggers at the moment as well. Did you settle for something yet?
The Vagabond is a portable power supply (and a good one at that).
in the uk i would probably buy elinchrom for studio flash's partly because of the retarded price of alien bees (you cant order through the us site either because they cant be bothered) and partly because they have inbuilt radio triggering, also the alien bees charge slower when run off a 50hz power source
What would you use for a mobile rig?
I never understood the importance of quick recycling of flashes. Unless you're shooting super-quick series (sports) it's pointless to pay more to wait half a second less. We could share experience!
I'd love a softboxed 800w for summer, got some immense shots to take. Full frame cam would be helpful too.
