Im getting a new build should i buy a radeon 5770 or wait for the nvidia 300 series and buy the higher end 200 series?
Regards
It is unpredictable what the new 300 series will do to prices for the GTX200 series. At first, it will most likely be unaffected because they are releasing the highest tier first.
you mean the 400 series. the 300 series are rebranded 200 series.

300 series will most likely be GT200 rebrands, or more Fermi cards coming Q3. And it's not high tier
the GTX 400 series are out late march... wouldn't those affect the prices?

Well, at first they are releasing the top tier of the 400 series, I doubt it'll affect cards like the GTX260 or 275
Wait and save up more and then make a decision.
I need to make a decision soon because im getting my build at the end of next month and want a 100-150 quid high end graphics card to top it off
Wait until the Fermi cards come out. That will drive the prices of the HD5000 cards, and you'll be able to pick up a 5870 or 5970 for relatively cheap.
actually, I read an article where ATI doesn't really plan to lower the prices until the cards have a "serious competitor".

Makes sense. Sucks for us.
OP I'm in the same boat, looking at either a 5770 or 5850 (I don't like the heat and power consumption numbers on the 5830). I think I'm going with a 5770 instead of waiting, as I don't see prices on the 5800s dropping any time soon. Eventually I'm getting a new mobo for ddr3, and when I do I'll probably get another 5770 for xfire. 5770 xfire performance falls somewhere between the 5850 and 5870.
A 5850 would be nice, but I just can't justify spending $300 on a video card. I spent $140 on a 9600gt two years ago and it's kept me happy this whole time. I wouldn't buy a 5850 unless I thought it would last me 4 years, which I don't see.
I'd like to get a new card, but with the lack of competition in the market right now, it's just far to expensive.

When the GTX 495 comes out, there will be a serious competitor.
i guess.. Mind you that everything is just rumors right now, but we'll see. They sell the cards @ PAX 2010 so we'd get benchmarks then.
you never know..
