TV Land Pulls Dukes of Hazzard off the Air (Guess Why)
TV Land has pulled re-runs of the 1980s sitcom "Dukes of Hazzard," the U.S. cable network said on Wednesday amid controversy over portrayals of the Confederate flag, which is notably featured on the show's "General Lee" vehicle.
Viacom Inc-owned TV Land declined to comment on why it has pulled the re-runs, but there has been growing criticism of displays of the Civil War-era flag in the wake of the shooting of nine black churchgoers in South Carolina last month.
The man arrested in the shooting, Dylann Roof, is a 21-year-old white man who had posed with a Confederate battle flag in photos posted on a website that displayed a racist manifesto attributed to him.
This is getting ridiculous as fuck.
Oh I thought it had something to do with Donald Trump.

This kind of shit is going to cause all the dumbfuck rednecks to riot.
Honestly if the Flag does even have racist meaning or whatever to some people, I doubt the general TV land audience is the type to care.
Is anyone really that offended by the flag? I already figured it was more of a "oh that guy might be a racist."
It's okay, Dukes of Hazzard isn't even that good of a show.
I support TV Land. All confederate traitors must hang!
This shit has gone on long enough. Pulling reruns of dukes is super fucking bullshit. IMO people should stop attacking a historical flag that hasn't stood for anything in 150 years and start attacking how black people are actually portrayed by black rappers and ~gangstas~ who do nothing but reinforce negative stereotypes.
When do we realize banning any sort of flag will do nothing at all to adress any issues? Oh damn they removed the duke boys, guess its time to reconsider my entire viewpoint on race relations and equality!
But hey, I guess its easier to pretend to be progressive, than actually make progress.
Jesus, I haven't seen this much media censorship since 9/11.

They're pretty harmless since the majority of them just post mean comments on the web. Roof mentioned that himself that he was motivated to commit action because he felt disappointed that they only talk on the internet.
hasn't stood for anything in 150 years
Pretty bold claim there guy. A group flew it into battle, it was something for the men and children fighting to rally under. It stood for something then, it still stands for that something today. Completely ignoring that various white supremacy groups have opted to fly the flag as well giving it even more meaning to people who suffered under those groups.
lol america fuuck yeah

I don't know how much damage they could do while posted up in their mobility scooters but I'll admit I'm curious.
You'd think the flag pulled the fucking trigger on those people...remember? That's what started all this. A madman posed with a confederate flag an unknown amount of time before shooting 8 people to death in an attempt to start a race war.
Uh Oh, how are the Duke Boys going to get out of this one?

It's kind of like any other symbol, it has multiple meanings depending on how it's used. If people shun it from it's positive context, then it will remain with it's negative context.
Quoting myself from a different thread...
We better start burning books about the confederacy and censoring movies showing the flag too. I mean, we've got to do this for the good of everyone. It's common knowledge that just a glimpse of the confederate flag will stir racist feelings and ideologies in people.
Like seriously though; does context not matter at all? I hate all these baby companies that are censoring themselves.

What's the positive context of the confederate flag?
i get the whole 'confederate flag represents racism' thing, but to try to wipe it away like it doesn't exist is like saying the third reich didn't happen

State's rights over a federal government that was ignoring much of it's populace?

While pulling a TV show off the air for a flag is idiotic, playing the blame game and trying to derive all issues to a single target is equally retarded. Trying to pinpoint social issues to one cause rather than accept it as a bundle of factors that had their effect over the course of several hundred years serves no purpose other than delay progress.
The confederate flag is a historical symbol of dire times when the United States fought over political issues, high social tension and the survival/death of an archaic system. It shouldn't be paraded with pride or as a positive symbol, but it shouldn't be forgotten either. Gangsta rap is also an issue because it is a part of a very negative system in place in the United States where people discriminate other people and people discriminate themselves out of misguided pride. They're both causes and effects of the current situation of the United States and you can't take care of one of them without having to take care of the other, not to mention all the other factors that haven't been mentioned thus far.
Solving social issues nationwide is a difficult process that can't be accomplished by just removing one thing as a scapegoat.

"state's rights" is a very selective way to put it

Prewar politics saw a lot of cracking that led to the succession. The election of Lincoln was more or less the straw that broke the camel's back - he won every state in the future union and lost every state in the future confederacy. In some southern states, he wasn't even on the ballot. If that doesn't say 'this guy that's the president doesn't represent my home at all,' I don't know what does.

YOU ARE NOT HELPING
I remember watching this show all the time when I was like 3 or 4. Daisy Duke was pretty much my waifu.
