Splitting internet with a fast ethernet switch works only for one machine.

Here's the deal, i need to split my internet connection between two PCs. I'm using an Edimax ES-3205P switch. Now, i've plugged in the main internet cable into it and the two outgoing cables. The problem is that my main PC, running Windows 7 if that matters, actually has internet connection, but the other one, running XP doesn't. The router doesn't even register that there's another client connected.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
On the XP machine in control panel then Network Connections right click on the ethernet interface, hit properties then double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" in the list on the first tab. Make sure its set to "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". Check if it connects. If it doesn't connect open a command prompt and try ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. If your ethernet interface is not listed in the Network Connections window you either need to enable it in the BIOS or install drivers for it.
^---What he said. Also, do you get link lights when you plug the cables in?
Tried the cmd approach and it just gave me "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected".
Gonna look for drivers/bios switches.

As in on the switch? Yeah, it shows up fine and dandy.

And there are no drivers for it. Great.
If it's saying media disconnected then it's not detecting the cable. unplug it from the computer for a few seconds and plug it back in.
Did that a couple of times. No surprise it doesn't see it, actually. I'm getting hit by electricity all over the place.
You mean static shocks?
Have you tried another cable and port?
No, i mean actual electric shocks. The damn thing is at least 8 years old. The PSU is most likely faulty beyond belief.
And yes, i've tried switching cables and ports, shutting off/on the router and modem, restarting the XP machine and even blowing air from a can inside the port. Nothing. Guess it's done now.
Edit:
Actually, i get a small buzz when touching the tip of the cable. As far as i can tell, it's gold plated.
Lol yea, if you're getting shocked from the ethernet port, there is a very good chance that the port is fried.

Not the port itself, but it is a possibility anyway. Well, gonna try laying out a direct line from the router tomorrow then, see if it works.
if you are getting shoked by the cable it is a very bad idea to plug it into a mobo because it will fry it.
