A few weeks back, Microsoft started a private beta of Cortana for Android and if you were not able to get into the program, you can now download the app to try out. The company has announced that Cortana for Android has entered a public beta and can be downloaded from the link below. However, availability is limited exclusively to the United States for now, but Microsoft says it is "planning to roll it out to other markets."
Cortana is Microsoft's version of Siri and Google Now, and seeing that the digital assistant is shipping with Windows 10, the company is hoping that consumers warm up to the feature and then want to use it on other platforms like Android. The company has also previously announced that Cortana will be coming to iOS as well.
Since it's now public and not a closed beta, APKMirror link (for those outside of the US): http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/microsoft-corporation/cortana/cortana-en-us-1-0-0-224-android-apk-download/
Interestingly enough, the link that allows you to get in to the beta, links you to an item on the Play Store that doesn't exist.

It may take a couple of refreshes.
any advantages of cortana over google now?
any advantages of cortana over google now?
A much nicer sounding voice maybe?
Cortana has always picked up what I said without error. Even if I talk fast like you would to another person. And my voice is probably not Air Traffic Controller clear and cool, either
Talking to your phone to get it to do stuff is silly.

It might be for you, tho many elderly people love this feature and use it on regular basis, since for them it is easier to just say instead of search for the right app.
It may take a couple of refreshes.
It usually takes a few hours.
any advantages of cortana over google now?
The fact that you have the same assistant on both your smartphone and your computer. Other than that, I don't really know.
Anyone know if cortana would be better than hound? Been using that and it's OK but I'd def like to try this over hound.
It's a pretty cool app for yelling at my phone to remind me to call someone a little bitch in an hour

i dont use cortana on my desktop

I like to tell Cortana to remind me to get such and such item the next time I'm at such and such store. Then the next time I pull into the parking lot it just chimes in and says Here's your reminder

-Talks back to you
-Near flawless voice recognition compared to both Siri and Google, in my experience of all three platforms
-Has a better sense of humor than Siri and especially Google's lifeless assistant, and makes meta jokes about Halo
-She can fucking sing
-Jen Taylor
I've had nothing but issues with the Cortana recognition over Googles. The few preprogrammed phrases do not do it justice as when it uses the actual TTS its terrible. Google Now's productivity is still higher IMO.

It's useful if you're driving, if you're very tired, or if you're very drunk.

No, it's great. I can't wait for it to be even better.
Even if Cortana did manage to understand anything I still don't think that sitting at my computer shouting commands at her would be fun
Oh that's why the Play Store marked the Moto X 2014 as incompatible
it crashes every time I launch it.

Really? I've always found that Google can't properly distinguish my voice from other voices in the room, but Cortana can.
Cortana is a lot better at understanding my voice than Google, but it's the opposite for my girlfriend. So I guess it's on a per person basis.
i dont use cortana on my desktop
Uhm, fair I guess? You asked for an advantage, that's pretty much it.
Lol, you can ask her about master chief.
great, not compatible with the motox 2014.
Lol, you can ask her about master chief.
No you can't, she will only answer questions about herself.
If you ask her how she and master chief are doing, or if she knows master chief, she just searches it on the internet.
If you ask her, "Hey Cortana, didn't you die in Halo 4?" She'll respond "You might be mistaking the future for the past."
Cortana's resurrection in Halo 5 confirmed

You can ask her "How is master chief doing?" twice. You can also ask where he is. Also you can ask her what her favorite food is. Or "Do a barrel roll". Oh and you can ask if she loves him.

Oh and you can also apparently play Rock paper scissors lizard spock
crashes on 2013 moto x if you try doing anything heads up

THANK YOU SO MUCH I'M HAVING SO MUCH FUN OMG
Oh, so now Cortana gets to be on Android even though I can't have it on my own fucking Windows 10 desktop because it's not in a valid region or some shit.
