• Arnold Schwarzenegger tells Australia cutting emissions is good economics
Arnold Schwarzenegger is apparently on a mission to terminate the myth that protecting the environment hurts the economy. The actor and former politician is in Australia to promote his new film Terminator Genisys, the first a planned new trilogy for the popular movie franchise. During his stint as governor of California between 2003 and 2011, Schwarzenegger passed the first emissions trading scheme in the United States. He has said all countries, including Australia, need to lift their game when it comes to tackling climate change. “In order for us to be successful the whole world has to work together ... Australia, Austria, the US – everybody has to work together,” Schwarzenegger told Channel Ten’s The Project on Friday night.
http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/jun/06/arnold-schwarzenegger-tells-australia-cutting-emissions-is-good-economics Couldn't find any other source. Three days old but I don't think it has been posted already.
No shit. You need different people for different types of machinery. Not everyone is a jack of trades in the engineering field.
While we do need to do something about emissions, Arnie can't say anything about it being good for the economy when California went broke under his governorship.
The problem with cap and trade is theyll trade it as if it were a commodity, the richest companies will horde their allotments and pay the fines when they run over while smaller companies will be bullied out by it, being unable to purchase their allotment Emission targets should be the goal, because it gives the entire industry a mandate on where they should go instead of monitizing climate change

A company isn't going to just accept the fine when there is only a benefit for them to buy more credits instead. If you ran a company would you rather pay for $1,000,000 more credits or a $2,000,000 fine? And then there's the whole point of the cap part, where if it's too-expensive for companies to buy credits, chances are that they'll invest in clean energies instead, which will be cheaper than the fine. There's some kind of correlation, but the government can be running surpluses or deficits in good economic times just like they can run surpluses or deficits in bad economic times.
Says the man who popularized using hummers for commercial use :v: Nah but seriously good on him putting that political experience to good use, as bad of a guvna he was.

Im surprised, isn't he a conservative?
Being Conservative doesn't necessarily mean you don't believe in climate change. My dad's conservative and he believes in it, but he thinks that it's a natural process that we're accelerating rather than causing it like some people say we are. Also reason why most conservatives oppose switching to greener technology because right now some of the green technology that people are suggesting we switch to is rather expensive or isn't efficient enough to fulfill the needs of our economy, of course you also have the lobbying of businesses who have their profits hurt by switching to greener technology aka the oil and coal mining companies.
Im surprised, isn't he a conservative?
Denying climate change isn't a part of conservative ideology, it's very broad and varies massively by nation. There are a lot of environmentalist parties in Europe that are socially or economically conservative Denying climate change is more to do with getting BIG BUXXXX $$$$ from oil companies

It also has the happy side effect of the continued survival of civilisation as we know it.
While we do need to do something about emissions, Arnie can't say anything about it being good for the economy when California went broke under his governorship.
California has been broke for decades. Not his fault. With the mess of unlikable presidential candidates right now, I bet if Arnold ran he might actually stand a chance of winning, seeing how much the presidential race relies on likability.
He's not a native-born US citizen, so he couldn't even if he wanted to.
Oh right, forgot about that.
He's not a native-born US citizen, so he couldn't even if he wanted to.
Kind of unfortunate
While we do need to do something about emissions, Arnie can't say anything about it being good for the economy when California went broke under his governorship.
California has been broke long before he was governor
California has been broke long before he was governor
California, too, was once governed by Reagan. Coincidence?!?! :tinfoil:
