Do you have hands like that when nervous? And you feel better when you do this? And then boom, your face becomes like this, which makes you even more nervous! Well the causes for skin like this may be different, but hands touching skin and peeling it off wont help a bit. It may and will spread bacterias and impurities even more around skin, causing even more problems... I tried one funny method and it actually works. Just get pair of these!! Yes, it's medical gloves. You can also use normal gloves but it will be harder if almost impossible to use touch devices, computers and so on. Why it works you ask? 1# The fact you have gloves on is strong reminder not to stratch. Trust me, it's alien task to stratch, when you have them on! 2# It is harder to stratch when you have them on because you don't feel the touch soo good than with straight hands. What will happen the first moment you put them on: 1# First minute nothing 2# First hour, your skin might start to itch like hell. Don't give up. 3# For days it may itch, but it will get better. Think of itch like tolerance from drugs. The more dose you get, less you feel it. It's withdrawal from a pleasure. Downsides: 1# It looks retarded to use computer when wearing it, but it's winter and you have good excuse. You can use normal gloves in public because well it is winter and cold outside. 2# Itches, but that is to be expected 3# You will need to put down those gloves because your hands will get wet. They can't breathe with those blue gloves. 4# The fact that you might have same gloves on for days is that your hands will get dirty. Because death skin falls off and shit gets stuck... well, just try to wash your hands and gloves (or just change them for new) What will happen when you put them down? 1# You may go to old mode again. I don't know really, because I have been using those gloves for 5 days. But when I put them down I almost always find myself infront of mirror and picking my skin. 2# The fact that picking may occur almost immediatelly when you put gloves down proves that it is effective only when you wear gloves. But time will tell. I will wear those gloves for atleast a month. I will wear them in home, in work, and so on. 3# I think the itch sensation has to go completely away and then it is safe to put gloves down. Just (my) theory, not proven though. This thread was made for all guys who want to improve their self esteem or just want nice (face) skin. I would be glad if you guys could tell the goods and the bads in this thread :). Happy experimentation and excuse me for my bad english. This thread was typed with gloves and no skin was scratched. Some new updates! Ok, so skin got gradually better after 6 days or so :) I am also starting to change pillows clothes since today, because I think the pillow is also main bacteria's heliport. Also I started to wash my face with water more frequently since yesterday! I am still feeling the itches like hell though. Drinking coffee makes it more obvious! Still not giving up. The thread was updates with gloves and with itchy but prettier face.
No I do not have this problem but I can make my hand look like the one in the first pic :0
Grow a long goatee instead. When you get older you can pretend to be a wise old man while stroking it [t]http://img.pandawhale.com/89952-master-strokes-beard-gif-Kill-bdei.gif[/t] [editline]wait[/editline] Just promise me not to grow a neckbeard, PLEASE!!
Stop doing coke?
I'd prefer not to be ridiculed for looking like a paranoid crazy twit all the time
Bite your nails instead.
Real solution: talk to a shrink about it you clearly have stress issues
It's funny that everytime I look my skin in the mirror, scratch comes out of nowhere. Now I know the skin picking issue is pure psychological.
Stop doing coke?
I stopped fapping, quit weed and I code all the time. Believe me, if it was the coke, it would't be so bad. [editline]7th December 2013[/editline]
Real solution: talk to a shrink about it you clearly have stress issues
Yes I do have stress issues, but I manage it with sport. I don't just pick my skin when nervous/stressed, I also sometimes do it out of boredom. It's bad habit that needs to get rid off. Also all doctors will do is fill me with bullshit or some pills. [editline]7th December 2013[/editline]
I'd prefer not to be ridiculed for looking like a paranoid crazy twit all the time
Well if you wear them in your home, then it shouldn't be so bad. Well it can be a problem if you have douchebag family. Also I said you can wear normal gloves in public, and since it's winter, you shouldn't have the problem looking like paranoid twit :)
I suppose a better alternative is to boost your confidence and fix your social anxiety so you wouldn't get nervous in the first place. I'm sure you'd look even dumber wearing medical gloves in public while talking to other people.
Also all doctors will do is fill me with bullshit or some pills.
or stress/boredom management techniques that don't involve compulsive self-mutilation...
A lot of you are criticising OP but this works for people with eczema too. When I was a kid, I used to scratch a lot, but when my mum told me to wear gloves for a month (it was winter anyway) it taught me not to scratch.
Clip your nails.
Try jerking off

I said you can and you should wear normal gloves in public like everybody else. Example: If that looks retarded, then half of the world is retarded. (which isn't far of the truth hehe) I have little of social anxiety but it's no bigge, most of the time I can talk to girls and guys normally. [editline]7th December 2013[/editline]
or stress/boredom management techniques that don't involve compulsive self-mutilation...
The last time I had been to doctor, she told me all bluf she can. She said stop drinking, stop smoking, but the fact that I haven't been drinking for almost a half a year and was non-smoker was red flag to me. Yes, it's only one doctor that messed it up for me and I should not throw all doctors into same trash. I might go to doctor again just for general check. I will try to argument every critics, no biggie. Also thanks for support.
When I get stressed, I end up playing with the ring on my right hand. Where I keep pressing it against the flesh, there's a small callus on the palm under my third finger. I'd take it off but I honestly feel a tiny bit naked without it.
I've had next to no problems with my skin for over a year now, if you really want to stop the problems then go to the dermatologist and the only advice I'd give anyone is to keep their hands clean before deciding to touch your face - it hurts to get spices or acid in your eyes.
Great, I'm no longer nervous about the fingerprints I leave behind after bank robberies and my skin has been getting better!
Real solution: talk to a shrink about it you clearly have stress issues
Yeah if it's so bad you can't stop yourself you need to see a shrink.
I've had next to no problems with my skin for over a year now, if you really want to stop the problems then go to the dermatologist and the only advice I'd give anyone is to keep their hands clean before deciding to touch your face - it hurts to get spices or acid in your eyes.
Tried many forms of creams and preparations, maybe they helped a little but the fact I have been spreading germs with my hands on my face is that I needed to stop touching face, not applying unneeded chemicals on my face. [editline]7th December 2013[/editline]
Yeah if it's so bad you can't stop yourself you need to see a shrink.
I know how stress fells, and it is not it. It's deeply rooted habit and it was so automatic that I didn't even noticed it when it was happening. Imagine solving difficult problem and while you are doing it you are automatically picking skin without noticing. I bleed many times this way, that is why I decided it needed to be dealth with it.
actually i'd think this might work for people with acne who pick their faces too. I do that as well as scratching when I get nervous. SO ITS NOT VERY NICE :v: might try it, thanks! (personally do not care about how it looks)
For those who bite your nails, you can get a rubber band and put it around your wrist, or if you're not wearing a long sleeved shirt, have it around your elbow. When you notice your teeth touch the nails, pull on the rubber band and let it slap your skin. The more it hurts the better you remember next time not to bite them: This is why you should wear the rubber bands near your elbow (the skin is really sensetive there).

My hands were scanning the skin and when they hit a bumb, it squeezed. The scanning system got so advanced that I already had all acnes squezed without realizing and then scratching began. I am bitting nails too and gloves work nicely for that too.
I'm glad I just run my hands through my hair when I'm feeling a little bit stressed or nervous. Probably a throwback to when you're a child and your parents and grandparents and stuff would run their hands through your hair while getting you to calm down and fall asleep or something. I also do the same thing when I'm bored, too. Scratching oneself sounds like a weird coping mechanism.

It's horrible that once it becomes a habit you don't often realize you're doing it.
It is weird yeah :) But people also cut themselves with knives, that is even more weirder.
Well that's a conscious, self destructive behaviour. That I can more sort of understand. This is a seemingly unconscious behaviour that happens to be self destructive (although I'm not sure if it's intended to be... I mean the fact that it seems to be an unconscious thing would seem to imply it can't be intended to be anything, but... fuck, I dunno.).

When it is learned, it becomes subconscious, like driving a car. You were pretty close, it is now unconscioous and self destructive. But it has to be learned at first, and you know people make mistakes and mistakes can be learned too.
I know that when men are nervous, their penises will shrink, while women's nipples will get as hard as rock.
Use a towel and put that on your pillow, change towel every week. It's comfy (depending on your towel) and you don't need to change the pillow clothing that often.
I've dealt with an atypical case of eczema ever since I was around two years old. In all honesty, it's really hard to not scratch at your skin when it itches. But just like OP said, it only gets easier to resist scratching the longer you don't satisfy your itch.
