Hey y'all. I'm in the market for a new graphics card. But im not about to shell out $200-300 for a new one. So, i come asking for advice.
I currently have a sapphire Raedon X1600. Whats a better one than that i can get for <$200.
I play a lot of video games, Bioshock and S.T.A.L.k.E.R. and such.
Live in the USA.
I hope i made this thread right, sorry if I messed it up.
processor: intel pentium d cpu 2.8GHz
RAM: 1022mb
system model: optiplex gx620
Graphics card: Sapphire Raedon X1600
Power supply: Dell 305 watts
Full specs?
Well, that would probally help.
I'm not currently at the computer I'm going to upgrade, So I dot really know. Is it really important for you guys to know all the things like: RAM, CPU, Motherboard, and such?
I'm a newbie at this stuff, so please bear with me if I'm coming across very stupid.
Yes, mostly the power supply. But the graphics card can be bottlenecked by the processor also.
I have 2 gigs of RAM if that helps, that's all i can remember.
go on to the computer, then go into command prompt (run>cmd.exe) and type dxdiag then copy and paste the results here.
I'm not at the computer. I live in VA but I'm in NC right now visiting family, ill be back in Virginia in about 2 1/2 weeks.
Hold on... maby i can get my bro in VA to check for me.
CPU-Z can tell you your motherboard model and CPU.
processor: intel pentium d cpu 2.8GHz
RAM: 1022mb
system model: optiplex gx620
I have a lot less RAM than i thought
Anything else you guys need to know?
Oh goodness. That's not very good at all.
Nonetheless, your best choice would probably be a 4670.
[editline]04:37PM[/editline]
Oh, and is your case a slimline?
What?
Which of these looks most like your computer?

1st is my computer. Its mainly a Frankenstein build tho. Spare parts.
Kay, you can fit any full-height graphics card.
Without knowing how weak/strong your PSU is, I'd suggest this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102820
How to determine PSU?
[editline]09:13PM[/editline]
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2064-7.html
So according to that, I was at the middle of the chart, (X1600) and the thing you suggested me would put me close to the top.(4670)
I think the top is bad, and the bottom is good. Or is it the other way around?
Do you think you could ask your brother, to open the side, and read what brand, and wattage the power supply is?
brand: dell
DC output, 305 watts.
Prismatex, are you sure the 4770 wouldn't work for him?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103077
Oh, 305 watts. Yeah, the 4670 is the way to go. :v:
Also, since you'll be far under your limit, get a better CPU. What socket is the Pentium D, 775?
Pentium Ds are LGA 775, but good luck upgrading the CPU on that thing without BIOS dickery. The motherboard probably doesn't support 1066 or 1333 FSBs.
Oh, lawd. I was going to suggest THIS, but apparently it won't be possible.
So just get a new mobo as well!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157160 (I'm assuming you have an mATX case)

It's a Dell and knowing Dell they've either riveted the MoBo down or made it propriety so you can't just replace it unless you pay out the arse for another shitty quality Dell one
If you feel comfortable switching out power supplies, you can get this PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016
and this GPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161268
All for about $200
Which will dramatically increase your performance. Your processor will still be a bit of a bottleneck, but you can see about upgrading that next depending on your motherboard.
[editline]05:56PM[/editline]
Also maybe splurge on some RAM if you have a few more bucks.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220396
If you want 4GB
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161030
If you want to save some money.
Personally, with all this hassle, I would begin thinking of a new compute, since you seem to need to replace almost everything in it. Also, That is the same computer my school uses.

...right, the stupid Optiplex 755 that's worth absolutely shit.
Alright, just build your own.
This is a lot more shit than i wanted to deal with.
Guess that's just the way it goes.
it is either get that or through money at the wall
You may or may not have to flash the BIOS after upgrading the CPU, but here:
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115206
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161252
That will put you at around 190 USD plus shipping, and should run your games fine.
