Way back in 2004, when I was 14, my friend thought about running away. In no way did I want him to because of all the stories about rape, but his situation was no better. His parents were very wealthy, and they beat him every day. My parents called child services once, but his parents "bribed" the neighbors, and fed lies to the social worker. He was extremely depressed for a couple months, and I couldn't stand it. Being the Boy Scout I was, I packed him a bag. Inside was a compass, five water bottles, an atlas, 5 K-rations, and a blanket. I marked him a route, told him the number of my friend he was to live with, and sent him off. He strapped his bag to his bike, waved goodbye, and left. About 2 days later, he came back. Turns out he didn't follow the plan and go to a nearby town to get food, but instead ate all his food the first day. When he returned, his parents beat him, and we called 911. They caught his parents in the act, and he was sent to a foster home. We still keep in touch, but not too much. Had he followed the plan I code named "Project Hoopla St."(on account that was the street he would take out of the town) he might have been raped or kidnapped. It really scares me what I could have caused, and often keeps me up at night. Have you ever run away, and if so, what was it like? Could I easily have gotten him killed?
I have never ran away, because I'm not stupid
imo kids think that running away will make their parents treat them better but in reality it just makes things worse
I ran away from home when I was 10. Then I realized i forgot my Game Boy and I ran back to my parents beating the shit out of me.
Gotta love parents.

He was never supposed to come back. He was supposed to slowly go to Kansas, over the course of 2 months.
When I was like 6, I ran away.
I told my mom I was going to run away, and she was like "Okay, here, take your coat with you". I really just ran about 5 feet past the edge of the yard, and crouched down in the tall grass, while I watched to see if my mom was looking for me.
I feel like it can be applied as a metaphor for most kids who run away.
Hey Idostupidthings, sounds like this story of your's counts as one of those things.

I was 14. At the time, he made it seem like he was getting murdered. He would come over covered in scrapes and bruises. It was the only logical thing I could think of.

yeah, um, how is a 14 year old kid supposed to travel to Kansas and live by himself
even if he did stay with your friend then the kid's parents can just sue him
My ex-girlfriend ran away to my house before wee go together, it was all cool til her Samoan brother showed up.

What?
I thought about running away once, but I had no reason to do it.
So, I didn't.

Ummm what don't you get? Her brothers are all Samoan.
I tried to run away when I was about nine. I wrote a note then chickened out and hid in the wardrobe. Mom found it, went on rampage, found me in less than a minute and shit hit the fan. I never did that again.
I told my parents I was gonna run away over something so petty I can't rememeber it when I was about 8-9. Got to the end of the drive with a bag full of useless crap (about 20 m), got cold, and went back. Then my mum made me a cup of hot milk.
I ran away on fathers day got caught by a cop sent home. The END enless your me then you keep getting yelled at for trying to run away on Fathers day.

Ding ding ding! Way to miss the point. He was fleeing because his parents beat him, not because his parents took away his Xbox. I'm sure someone of your intelligence however cannot tell the difference. No offense. Buddy.

Sounds like a certain Calvin and Hobbes comic.
If I were to run away, I would not leave without some type of weapon.

and my computer
I would bring a bag full of all my possesions
(including my room)

That was the plan. If the kids parents wanted him back, Child services would have to be brought in, and it would hopefully get him into foster care.
Heh, my sister "ran away", she was tired of how my mom would never let her do the things she wanted, so she went to her boyfriend's house for a day then came back because my mom called the cops on her. I feel bad for the people who are in really worse positions and have a way more difficult time making a decision.
I have idiot friends. One of my friends told me today that he wants to run away because his parents grounded him, due to the fact that he swore at a cop, after he caught him and one of his friends kicking over bikes when they were high.
He's playing Call of Duty: Black Ops on Steam right now.
He turned 14 five days ago.
K-rations? Evil bastard.
Reminds me how my douchey friend used to run away every few weeks. He always got about a mile down the road before calling his parents on his cell crying for them to take him back home.
Heh, just made a rant on wanting to be rich. Ironic.
Ha ha, I remember running away when I was like, 6 or something.
My sister woke of up at 4 in the morning, and told me the plan. Pfft, at that age I didn't even know why we were doing it, I only did it because my sister asked nicely. :3
Anyway, we grabbed heaps of useless crap and wrapped them up in our blankets. Then we headed out the back door, pretty much loosing half of our stuff here. We headed down the street, dragging our blankets after us, thankfully not being picked up by strangers.
By the time we got half way to where were suppose to go, we were attacked by two dogs. My sister whipped out her hair brush and tried her best to fend off the dogs, while I just stand there shitting myself. Luckily, we were nearby one of those 'safety houses', and those people chased off the dogs and took us in.
I can't really remember what was going on at this point, I was too busy eating toast and watching TV. After that we were loaded into a police car and my sister directed the police to our aunties house. Apparently our parents hadn't reported us missing yet.
So we stay there for a brief 5 minutes before being loaded into the police car again and taken home. When we got home I ate yoghurt while my sister got a huge smack.
Recently I asked my Dad what he thought when he woke up and found us missing. Apparently he woke up later than usual, and answered the door to the police asking "wondering where your kids are?"
He he he.
