Unionists voted down a motion at Stormont’s Assembly which called on the power-sharing ministerial Executive to legislate. Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK without marriage rights for gay couples.
Oh come the fuck on.
Wow
This country sucks.
Northern Ireland is the only part of the UK without marriage rights for gay couples.
AFAIK it's the only part which is not pursuing same-sex marriage, but England/Wales and Scotland's bills haven't actually passed yet
Bert and Ernie as symbols of gay marriage?
Bert and Ernie as symbols of gay marriage?
After Jim Henson died, they became a symbol.
Bert and Ernie as symbols of gay marriage?
Two guys living together, and I think they sleep in the same bed and take baths together? Sounds pretty gay.
When did those 2 have to start sharing a bed? Last I knew they still had separate beds, and were brothers.
When did those 2 have to start sharing a bed? Last I knew they still had separate beds, and were brothers.
Incest, you say? This is getting hotter by the second!
that's awful. grow up you dickweed politicians
Two things. 1. That Bert & Ernie poster in the picture is just adorable. 2. Asking for same sex marriage in the most catholic country in centuries?! Yeah I'm not surprised by this.
Pretty unsurprising.
Considering the number of Catholics living there and that most Unionists are very conservative, I'm not surprised, sadly.
2. Asking for same sex marriage in the most catholic country in centuries?! Yeah I'm not surprised by this.
Weren't there polls a few months back, or maybe a referendum, that showed the Republic of Ireland actually supported gay marriage in a majority? And that's the Catholic part, the north is Protestant. Also I'm pretty sure Italy is more Catholic than Ireland.
I just don't get it... A country should have no right to deny its citizens rights because religious people feel that its 'icky' and against their beliefs. The fact that Honey Boo-Boo Child is now a reality TV show is against my beliefs, but I don't expect it to be banned because of it.
northern irish people are too busy getting drunk which is waht irishmen do lol
northern irish people are too busy getting drunk which is waht irishmen do lol
We're too busy rioting over flags to give a fuck
We're too busy rioting over flags to give a fuck
You should probably invest in some flagpoles. Most people riot underneath flags, or at least at shoulder-level.
Today’s petition of concern at the Assembly tabled by the largest unionist party, the Democratic Unionists, ensured Sinn Fein’s motion would be defeated after a majority of unionists failed to back the change.
Sinn Fein were apparently backing the motion, which is unusual as they are predominantly Catholic.
Sinn Fein were apparently backing the motion, which is unusual as they are predominantly Catholic.
Especially odd to support them - a lot of the members are ex-IRA.
Especially odd to support them - a lot of the members are ex-IRA.
Of course people support them, they represent the republican community and the same could be said that number of Unionist politicians were ex-UVF or UDA.
The Unionists were against it because Sinn Fein were for it, basically.
Sinn Fein were apparently backing the motion, which is unusual as they are predominantly Catholic.
Huh, that's annoying, whenever there's a referendum and I'm not sure what to vote I always just find out what sinn féin are pushing for and vote the opposite. Now my system is broken.
The Unionists were against it because Sinn Fein were for it, basically.
Silly sectarianism should have no place in matters like this, but it sadly does.
whenever there's a referendum and I'm not sure what to vote I always just find out what sinn féin are pushing for and vote the opposite
So you're a hack, basically?
Just when I thought Northern Ireland might be moving out of the dark ages.
Are people even still rioting over that flag 'issue'? What was even the problem anyway, the Union Jack was taken down or something?
Since when did 2 best friends sleeping in the same bed gay? I gotta rethink my whole life.
Are people even still rioting over that flag 'issue'? What was even the problem anyway, the Union Jack was taken down or something?
It was taken down for most of the year and people rioted. Pretty sure they're over it already. I assume you're from Rathlin Island?
No. I'm from Belfast but Rathlin Island is where I got my username, had it ever since I created it for my Command and Conquer Renegade online account.
