I've decided to post some crap I've done. I apologize that I used a poor quality cell phone camera for most of these, I was in a bit of a rush for no reason.
I'll start with some stuff I did for my Grade 10 art class last year to get sketchbook hours. This year I plan to get a little more abstract and see where it goes.
Some of you may know the reference here.

Clearly 100% original concept. I don't know why I'm even posting this here, but whatever.

Painting I did that was originally going to be a painted version of a fancy screenshot I took in EVE way back, but started to dress it up.

This was the result of mostly listening to music while I drew, followed by a dressing up.

So that was my stuff from early 2010.
Last night I decided I'd attempt a 1:1 thing I could do of this image, which was taken by a French photographer while he was touring North Korea a few years ago. FYI, she's not in the military, that's just the standard uniform for a tour guide in NK. After I started making minor changes and ultimately noticed it was a bit too zoomed in than the original picture, I'll now say it's moreso derived from that original image. Don't worry, I took the time to get out a real camera for this one.

So that's it. I've finally made a decent thread for a decent board.
Oh and, before you say I should use a scanner, I'll just say now that the scanners on multiple printers in my house are all annoying as hell to use, so not today.
i have never seen somebody with a double chin, meaning two chins side by side!
Keep at it, but your art looks exactly the same as every other GCSE art students work. It's good stuff, but it is nothing amazing in my opinon.
No offense, but a lot of the more advanced art students at my high school do better than that. I think that you may just need to take more time. Some of them look really good, but some need a little time and love.
True, I do find myself rushing crap.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I touhgt about telling you tomorrow but there's some time before the painkillers kick and I can sleep so here you go:
I'll leave the coolface at that, only meme shit I approve of is "op is a fag" cause every time it's used on 4chan it's true.
Only thing that, from an asthetical viewpont, looks baerable is your abstract shit.
Humans, where the real skill sets in, we see no skill. Not even the bare basics. You just look at screen and randomly pull lines, not giving any tought about the rules and such that apply to the real thing. You don't even guess, you just go fuckall.
You don't break them down into basic shapes, you have no idea about basic proportions or anatomy and rules of logic. You aren't even on square one. Atleast you got yourself a sketchbook. Something to look at and loathe in the upcoming years.
Proportion:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Articles2/6561/299/images/face-proportion.jpg
basic anatomy n shit you can learn by drawing from life or from photos. It's a long, long path, I've been doing it for a year and I still suck hairy monkeyballs with eggs.

Other basics: www.drawspace.com Don't you even fucking dare to look at anything else than entry lever tutorials.
Rest the community is happy to provide once you return with something better than this. Maybe we can work even on shading.
Oh, 3v3ry, as direct as ever I see :v:
ffffffffuuuuuuuuuu
At risk of sounding like a neurotic bastard, I will say that I've studied anatomy in detail before as well as shading. The art classes I've been in since Grade 9 have gone into great deal on this stuff, and I've got it down in the past.
What can I tell you? "Well this time I made an EXCEPTION!"? Nope. My excuse is that I was rushing. I will openly admit that I rush much of my sketching. I think so much about the finished product that I'll use the quickest solutions possible to get it done. On top of that, it was nearing 2 am and I was planning to have gone to bed at 12:30.
So, thanks a lot for the tips, good stuff to keep in mind, and I'll try to spend some real time on my next whatever.

The reason that the students at my school are better than your drawings is that they spend weeks at a time on a single image. Once they have spent hours upon hours onto it, they then hand it in as a grade.
I will admit, I have the same problem, I tend to try to rush my work, but the greatest pictures are the ones I wasted countless hours on.
I like the space painting, but that asian woman is just butt ugly in your drawing.
Keep on trying.
This is not very good to be honest. Especially for an art student.
Heck, people in my class doodle better than that and they have no experience.
Not trying to sound cruel here but please, learn the basics. I don't care if you have studied
anatomy before, it's obviously not enough.
Just... Learn some basic shapes first okay.
Rushing your work has nothing to do with it. Ideally you should be able to sketch someone's face (With it being proportionally correct and bearing a resemblance) in under 5 minutes.
Do what 3v3rybody said. Click on those links and learn if you are serious about it. There is no excuse for these abominations, whatever you may think or say.

It is no excuse. Even if you rush it's quite easy to tell how skilled you are.
Right now you there's absolutely nothing.
You might've studied them but nothing caught on, nothing indicates any kind of artistic intelligence what-so-ever.
Your art school sucks cocks, if they don't do anyhting about students like tou.

Uh.. you don't look like you've got anatomy down- at all, especially if all you've done is art lessons in school (assuming that's all you've done from your post).
Also, like 3v3ry said- you can tell someone's skill from a quick doodle.
Speaking about that 1:1 scale drawing you did of the asian lady, you've butchered her proportions- a huge part in any anatomy course no matter where you go.
Her head in your drawing her head covers just over the area shown of her torso, that's obviously too large, have a look at your drawing in the mirror/upsidedown/flipped on your computer and you'll see it. Her head shape and angle is mangled, her berret is even the complete wrong shape. Your tonal range is basically nonexistant and her facial features are also in the wrong place and are the wrong shape.
Pretty much no one has anatomy completely down- certainly not yourself.
I guess this is a pretty hostile post- sorry about that, but I don't like your attitude.
You should try a life drawing class and 3very's links, they'll really help.
Look I don't need a council to see that her proportions are off, I could see it myself.
I knew the last drawing had issues but I felt like posting it anyways. I understand that it has issues. And I don't see how I've really shown any attitude, I've made sure I thank you guys for the tips in every post.
I would continue to stress that I was rushing like hell for the last drawing but I know I'll keep getting more responses insisting that I'm wrong and instead I'm just bad. I know myself much better than some posters on facepunch.
I can just see this turning into one of those typical "everybody grills on the bitchy OP because he's saying outlandish things" threads, so please just let this thread die. I'm trying to be as polite as I can here but I'm sure you guys understand there's a limit as to how calm one can keep in a scenario like this. I'm even being accused of having no artistic intelligence what-so-ever, and of being an art student in dire need of help. "Oh, okay guys, NOW I know. :)"?
All I'm saying at this point is thanks for the tips, I'll make sure any future anatomy-related drawings actually have anatomy, and thanks for the link 3v3ry. Except for that last link, you told me not to dare looking past the beginner stuff, yet intermediate has stuff like two-point perspective and cartooning, stuff I studied extensively in both 9 and 10 art. As for the drawing in question;
It was a terrible drawing I whipped up at 2 AM and thought was decent enough to post online the next morning. I wasn't even thinking of anatomy when I drew it, I didn't even bother to make the basic shapes beforehand. I decided I was going to just stare at the picture and draw the basic outlines without looking, and then work on the details later. I did NOT apply any of my official (official as in stuff I learned in school) artistic knowledge to drawing it, just the kind of techniques I did as a kid. Clearly that's not the kind of thing you share.
Now if you guys could just let this thread die, and maybe a mod could lock it if he or she passes along, that would be great.
Meh your knowledge still shines through through your muscle memory and such. You can't be visually SO impaired to see subject that wrong.
I do quick doodles and such just by looking at the images as well or from life. I don't do much basic shaping.
I still think you don't understand what 3v3 is trying to tell you. Maybe read his posts twice.
I'll just stick to the Creative Work That Doesn't Deserve A Thread thread for now.
yes. yes you will
Yeah that's my plan.
yes. yes you will
I'm starting to like you, sir.
Andokool12, I'd like to illustrate 3v3ryb0dy's point, but I'd need you to come on Iscribble.net with me/somebody else who owns a tablet to compare results.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
