• My computer can't preview pictures
    29 replies, posted
If I try to preview a picture my computer it fucks it up and all all of my folders shut down, my desktop and the bar in the bottom disappears for a moment until my computer restarts them. In other words, if I try to preview a pic my Explorer.exe goes apeshit and needs a tranquilizer shot and a restart. This is a new problem, I haven't had this for long, but it is getting really annoying. Any fix to this? Running vista by the way, and no, you don't need to know my hardware
Seriously, how much RAM do you have?
Seriously, how much RAM do you have?
Enough. It has worked totally fine, but recently it just went that way.
If you think 512 MB is enough, it's not.
If you think 512 MB is enough, it's not.
For me, it is.
Zomg you really have 512 MB? I have 12 GB of ram. Buy more then your problem is more than likely solved.
Download more RAM

I have 4 GB ram and my PC freezes up sometimes. I suggest you to get some more ram.
http://www.downloadmoreram.com/
I'm not supposed to trust that site, right?
Zomg you really have 512 MB? I have 12 GB of ram. The more programs and services you install, the more ram they eat in general. If you don't have enough ram, the ram required to preview the pictures might've been consumed by new services that you installed. Even if it's not the problem, get more ram. Remember that RAM is Random-access Memory. It can be consumed randomally by programs at any time.

For Vista you really need at least 1GB of 300Mhz+ RAM, since Supercache takes up about half your RAM at any time to speed up the OS and all that.

I mean, if I shut down all of the unnecessary things and it will work then, then I need RAM. What if it won't work?

Cause I knew someone that didn't restart for 3 months and nothing would work.
When was the last time you restarted your computer? Cause I knew someone that didn't restart for 3 months and nothing would work.
Yesterday. It was installing updates but I canceled them because I was tired and didn't want to leave the computer to download updates for 20 minutes and then be idle for over 7 hours. If i recall it right, I couldn't preview pictures even before installing the updates.
Wait how can you cancel updates while restarting? That's probably why...
Wait how can you cancel updates while restarting? That's probably why...
It was installing updates, but halfway through i canceled the rest of them and THEN shut down the computer. I turned it on next morning.
Press ctrl + shift + escape and go to the performance tab. On memory what does it say.
Press ctrl + shift + escape and go to the performance tab. On memory what does it say.
1.06 Gt in bee four, "only 1.06?"
you need at least 12gb ram to preview pictures
1.06 Gt in bee four, "only 1.06?"
the hell does gt mean? from that tab look in the bottom left and see what available memory says.
the hell does gt mean? from that tab look in the bottom left and see what available memory says.
Too much crap in left bottom corner to know what you need to see from there. Also, I have it in Finnish so a picture describing what you need to see would be coolio.
29 I guess I have quite low amount of RAM available?
Yeah that's the reason why. You need to get more you have 29 MB left.
Yeah that's the reason why. You need to get more you have 29 MB left.
I don't really have much (any) money so getting RAM might be hard. Thanks for helping me though.
I don't really have much (any) money so getting RAM might be hard. Thanks for helping me though.
The best think you can do is uninstall a lot of unnecessary programs that start up on boot. Or just don't have them start from boot.
