• Different versions of HDMI

I bought a monitor that supports 120 hertz through DVI-D and HDMI, but my Xbox360 HDMI cable simply can't go all the way to the optimal resolution together with 120 hertz, but it does work if I set it at a lower resolution. Now I heard that there are different versions of HDMI, but is the cable that comes with the Xbox360 really that bad? I'm told that the cable needs 1.4 support, but I have no idea what version the Xbox cable is. I'm not using the Xbox360, I just need the cable from my laptop to my monitor. Does anyone know about this?
I believe the XBOX360 doesn't support 120Hz display.
Oh god.. I forgot to tell, I'm doing this from my laptop, I'm just using my Xbox360 HDMI cable.
Well the 360 is apparently only HDMI 1.2 so the cable may only be 1.2; Are you sure the laptop can output 120hz at 1080p? What video card is in it? Try forcing the resolution with the nvidia control panel or ATI CCC.
The video card is Radeon HD 4650. I don't know how to force the resolution, but I am almost positive that it is compatible.
don't quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure you can't do 120hz over hdmi, only dual-link dvi
don't quote me on this, but i'm pretty sure you can't do 120hz over hdmi, only dual-link dvi
Everywhere I've searched, people say that HDMI 1.4 supports 1080p 120hz, but the older versions doesn't, I just like an answer from FP.
Yea, you'll need a HDMI 1.4 cable for higher than FullHD res on 60Hz.
Yea, you'll need a HDMI 1.4 cable for higher than FullHD res on 60Hz.
So if I get a 1.4 cable I'll be able to run Full HD 120hz right? All of these should be HDMI 1.4: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240
AMD does not specify if it supports 1.4, so maybe it would work.
I've got an HD 4650, desktop version, and I'm pretty sure it doesnt support 120Hz 1080p via HDMI I'm pretyy sure it also doesn't support HDMI 1.4
I've always had issues with HDMI and 120hz, I gave up and got a DVI cable and it's working fine. Does your laptop have a DisplayPort connection?
