When she struggles to sleep she will sometimes put on a mac and walk around the palace grounds, an ex-guardsman told me," Tucker wrote for the publication. "On one occasion he was patrolling inside the perimeter of the Palace walls at 3 a.m. when he spotted a figure in the darkness. Thinking that he had come across an intruder, he shouted: 'Who’s that?' To his surprise it was the Queen." The exchange that followed was unexpected and humorous. The man, who was not identified, said, "Bloody hell" and told the Queen, 90, that he "nearly" shot her.
Before anyone asks, a mac is a water proof coat. I had to look it up :v: Being from buger land I've never heard of it until now. Also it's funny how casual he was with the Queen.
Jesus fucking christ, even speaking as a person who's not overly enthusiastic about the monarchy, I'm sleep deprived and misreading this almost gave me a goddamn heart attack :v:
So this apparently happened a while ago. Not yesterday or recently
The Queen is such a lovely old lady
So this apparently happened a while ago. Not yesterday or recently
I was trying to add the words "was once" to the title but it failed :-( maybe once mods are around I'll enquire to have this corrected.
How can you kill an immortal?
missed the word "nearly", christ
How can you kill an immortal?
with a bullet immortality doesn't equate invincibility
Changed the title because that's horrifyingly misleading.
Stephen Fry told an anecdote on QI of one day when the Queen was out for a walk with a royal attendant near Buckingham Palace, and a small group of American tourists went by and the Queen said hello and a polite little conversation started. They asked her if she lived nearby, and she said she lived in a little house in the neighbourhood. They said, "Oh, have you met the Queen?" "No," she said, before flashing a little grin and pointing at the royal bodyguard, "But he has!"
How can you kill an immortal?
You chop of their head, duh!
There was an article in the local news about how Buckingham Palace has all these plans and preparations for her funeral, and how everyone's not sure how it will go down with the nation and the Commonwealth.
with a bullet immortality doesn't equate invincibility
She could be invincible too. No one's mortally wounded her yet so we can't be certain.

She has as been the longest reigning monarch and despite what a lot of people say on here about the monarchy, she is quite a popular monarch at that.
She is a really nice lady, and she looks like a regular person too (I mean look at prince Charles and then at her). Without her regalia she looks like a regular grandma that you can meet in every Russian city.

It's going to shake up the world pretty badly.
the queen is just overall awesome, she looks just like my nan AND she was part of the auxiliary territorial service in ww2
I wonder what Canada's going to do once this queen croaks and we get another new monarch? Are we going to change the queen on our coins?
There'd be a lot to change. Money, the anthem, any service which constantly uses the contemporary Royal Cipher, and a lot of current government offices & documents beginning with the prefix Her Majesty's for a start.
I imagine there is a lot in place to have it change over relatively easily. Don't get me wrong, it'll be a bitch but I'm sure the thought has crossed people's minds.
Maybe it'll be the perfect time for us to say "sod off monarchy, we're pulling an america!"
Republican spirit isn't very strong in Britain however. I think most people in Britain would prefer if it skipped Charles and went to Prince William. Hell, even I'd prefer it though I hold no loyalty to their royalty. I'd say he'd certainly be an alright head of state for us to deal with. It's funny actually. We don't want a monarchy at all and we much prefer our Presidents (who are pretty cool head of states), but we view the British monarchy pretty positively, especially since Queen Elizabeth II's visit. Diana was everyone's favourite though - I think people were pretty upset about it over here when she died, simply because she a relatively ordinary person.

I was born a subject, but I want to die a citizen. Are we going to change the queen on our coins?
Technically as soon as she died Charles becomes king. So yes, we'd start putting an old foreign guy on our coins instead of an old foreign lady.
Imagine if when he drew his gun on her, she disarmed him with some crazy James Bond type maneuver.
Don't want to go too off-topic here, but when the Queen does die, it's going to be a bit of an awkward situation. I am naturally opposed to the monarchy, it's a useless relic from an immoral age that I think worsens the already overwhelming, suffocating class-ism that permeates the UK. Having said that, the current face of it is a cool grandma, and that makes it a bit more tolerable. Once she's gone though, I don't know what will happen. The rest of the royal family are too much of a bitter pill to swallow, Prince Charles especially. He's got a big, sneery toff face and there have been issues concerning him corresponding with government officials. The obvious solution to this would be to skip him and go straight to Prince William, who is very popular with his young wife and family, but they literally can't do that without changing the system, and the system can't be too modern because modernity is like the antithesis of the monarchy. Holding a hugely ostentatious coronation ceremony in a time with so much austerity would be a disaster as well.
They could easily skip Charles if he voluntarily abdicates in favour of letting William be king. Frankly I hope he doesn't though, I want Charles' unpopularity to kill monarchistic sentiment in Canada.
The obvious solution to this would be to skip him and go straight to Prince William, who is very popular with his young wife and family, but they literally can't do that without changing the system
p sure charles can just reject monarchy causing William to be king.
I don't think Charles is that unpopular. Maybe he would be that bad if his Mom passed on during that whole thing with Diana but it's been years since that happened.
I don't think Charles is that unpopular. Maybe he would be that bad if his Mom passed on during that whole thing with Diana but it's been years since that happened.
Charles doesn't meddle with Canadian affairs the way he does with politics at home, and very few of his weirder bullshit theories and ideas make news over here. Given that the monarch has effectively no power except for ceremonial duties and holding the "break in case of vote of no confidence" lever (fulfilled in proxy by the Governor-General unless the monarch is on Canadian soil at the time), I doubt Charles will meddle with Canadian affairs to any major degree; the only way he'd drive rejectionism is either by blatant stupid meddling with Canadian affairs or by generating enough bad PR back home that there's enough distaste over idiotic figureheads to shift the last vestiges of power across the ocean. Fun fact: Canada was the first in the Commonwealth to put the Queen on money, by putting her face on a coin when she was still a young princess. Canada's love affair with her maj is woven into the tapestry of 20th Century Canada.
